The six items are all disbound and in fair condition, with light signs of age and wear. Items One and Five are not productions of the Society, but are closely connected with it. The first five items are scarce: the only copies of One on COPAC at Oxford and the British Library; no copy on COPAC of Two; the only copies of Three and Four at Oxford; Five is a galley proof; and Six only to be found at Oxford, the British Library, the LSE and University College, London. ONE: 'The Idea of an Oxford Modern Ethical Society.

A total of 1290 pages, in six 4to notebooks. Internally clean, on lightly aged paper, in worn and repaired bindings, with the back cover of one of the volumes loose. Day has signed three of the covers, and decorated the cover of one volume with the crests of three Universities: Montenegro, St Andrews and London. All the texts are carefully written out Day's neat, close hand, with tables and graphs, some titles in red ink, and occasional pencil annotations. A list of the contents of the six volumes ends this description.

3pp., 12mo. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. Addressed to 'Dear Sir', but from the context clearly addressed to Cruikshank. (That Cruikshank and Prince were correspondents is shown by a reference in Rosa Baughan's 'Character Indicated by Handwriting' (1880), which describes a 'long letter' from Cruikshank to Prince.) Prince begins by apologising for not thanking Cruikshank for his 'Exposure of that "Scamp's" devices'.
