Both items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. ONE: 'Plan for obtaining the Maximum and Detailed Information about the Enemy.' Headed 'MOST SECRET'. 2pp., 8vo. On two leaves stapled together. With illegible facsimile signature of author at end: ' Capt', followed by typed 'GSO.3(I) | 6 Armd Div. | IN THE FIELD | 25 Mar 43.' Copy numbered '9' in manuscript. Divided into three sections: 'Appreciation of Type of Operation likely to be carried out by an Armd Div.', 'Method' and 'Security'.

[2] + 28pp., 8vo. In buff card folder. In fair condition, with light signs of age and wear, and slight rust staining from the metal tips of the ties used to attach the pages to the covers. Both the folder and title-page number the copy '8' in blue pencil. With five fold-out maps, the first three picked out in colours, titled: 'Battle of Fondouk', 'Battles of Goubellat Plain & Tunis', 'Later Phase of Battle of Tunis', 'Trace showing principal German Minefields Bou Arada - Medjez el Bab - Tunis' and 'Trace showing typical German Minefield encountered'.

3pp., 4to. 113 lines of text, under the subheadings 'Italy', 'Denmark' and 'Russia'. In fair condition, aged and worn, on high-acidity paper browned with age, and slight loss to corners. Each page is headed 'MOST SECRET', with the heading on the first page underlined in red pencil, and the phrase repeated at the end. A well-informed report, vivid and detailed, and clearly not meant for publication (one paragraph begins 'As I said in my story in the Sunday Express last week,'). The document begins by confirming the secret Italian Armistice, signed on the same day): 'MOST SECRET.

With labels, shelfmark and stamps of the Board of Education Reference Library. The first part is titled 'Results of the Investigation', and is in eight parts, including 'The Church', 'The Secret Society', 'Benficial and Insurance Societies' and 'Cooperative Business'. The second part includes 'Papers Submitted to the Conference' by H. H. Proctor, Dr H. R.

6pp., 8vo. On three leaves stapled together, with punch holes for ring binder. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. With 'RESTRICTED' at head and foot of each page. Corps badge at head of first page and six illustrations in text. Divided into 24 sections, with headings: Formation; Early History; The First World War; The Second World War; Post War; Alliances; The Badge; Corps Colours; Dress Distinctions; Corps Day; Official Music; Patron Saint; Corps Motto. Written in a no-nonsense style. For example, the final two sections read: 'Patron Saint | 23.

8vo booklet stapled into card wraps, with 40pp. of text, headed 'OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS - R.107' (divided into: General Description; Working Instructions; Maintenance), followed by the ten fold-out plates, consisting of three circuit diagrams and seven plates of photographic illustrations on art paper.

The three documents mimeographed on folio paper. Part III: 21pp. Part IV: 24pp. Part V: 18pp.; totalling 63pp. All three in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with the last leaves of Parts III and IV loose.

3pp., foolscap 8vo. Mimeographed in purple on three leaves. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with marks at head and in left-hand margin of each leaf from rusted pin. The first leaf stamped 'SECRET' in blue ink in top left-hand corner.

60pp., foolscap 8vo. Dogeared, and with first and last leaf creased, otherwise very good on lightly-aged paper. With a few manuscript corrections (by Hyde?). The talk itself covers pp.1-22, and the session of 'Questions and Answers' pp.23-60. Typed notes in the text (Spelling?', 'Distorted', 'Indistinct') indicate that the transcription was made from a recording. Besides the questions in the latter section are pencil notes relating to the identity of the questioner ('Craig', 'Scott', 'Asian', 'Australian').

Both items foolscap 8vo. Stapled together. In fair condition, on aged and creased paper, with first leaf of first document loose. ONE: 'Preparation and Submission of Confidential Reports'. 8pp., foolscap 8vo. Divided into 44 sections, several of which are further divided into subsections. Headings include: 'Types of Confidential Report', 'Commendation and Awards', 'Definition of Terms', 'Colloquialisms and Unprecise Language', 'Principles of Preparation of Confidential Reports', 'Personal Knowledge of Officers', 'Officers Entitlement to see Reports', 'Adverse Reports'.

2pp., foolscap 8vo. In good condition. Headed 'Secret'. Headings: 'The Hoong League', 'Founders. Symbols', 'Notorious Societies' and 'Mark of Leadership'. From the private papers of C. A. A. Nicol, who joined the Malayan Union Police Force in 1950, and in the Royal Malaysian Poilce between 1957 and 1967, 'to assist in promoting and consolidating the successful transition to full independence. During this period the Special Branch played a vital role in maintaining peace and security in the country.'

The documents are numbered 1 and 2. Both very good, on lightly-aged paper. Document 1: 2pp., foolscap 8vo. Headings read: 'Calcutta Conference - March 1947', 'Start of Emergency - 20 Jun 48', 'Advantages to CTO', 'Results', 'Government wresting the advantage from the CTO', 'Success against CTO' and 'Conclusion - Operation Bamboo'. Dates and figures have been added over the two pages, on subjects including Operation Parchment, Operation Chieftain, Operation Shark, Operation Bintang and Operation Ginger.

3pp., 8vo. Two pages of text and a full-page map of Burma. The text begins: 'The insurgents in Burma, some 24,000 strong, are variously motivated by ideology, ethnic aspirations or prospects of profits from smuggling and dacoity.' From the private papers of C. A. A. Nicol, who joined the Malayan Union Police Force in 1950, and served in the Royal Malaysian Police between 1957 and 1967, 'to assist in promoting and consolidating the successful transition to full independence.

2pp., foolscap 8vo. Good, on creased and lightly-aged paper. Divided into eight numbered sections, under the following headings: 'The General Problems Relating to the Revolution', 'The Present Duty of the Organisation', 'The Other Requirements for the Armed Struggle'. The document begins: 'Based on the assumption that more than 80% of the population of SARAWAK are farmers and that this farming class is made up of all races, the revolution of the farmers is the revolution of the farmers of all races.

The 'Guide' is 18pp., foolscap 8vo. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. Divided into 92 sections, with headings: 'Agent Handling', 'Agent Security', 'Meetings and Communications', 'Arrangements for Physical Meetings', 'Telephone Communication', 'Accommodation Address', 'Live Letter Box', 'Dead Letter Box', 'Conduct of Meetings', 'Payment to Agents', 'Contact Notes', 'Scrambling and Filing of Information', 'Agent's Personal File', 'Training and Advancement of Agent', 'Discarding an Agent', 'General Comment'. Dated at end 'MAR 66'. A revealing document. See, for example: '56.

A significant collection of documents relating to the secret effort, at the end of the Second World War, to prepare officers of the British and allied armed forces for the coming occupation of Germany. Excessively scarce: the only other holdings appear to be in the British National Archives, and the Maurice M. Goodner papers (OAC), the latter relating to a later Parisian branch of the school.

12mo: 44 pp. Unbound. Text clear and complete on aged paper. Ten paragraphs on pp.7-10 have terse, sardonic phrases added at the end, apparently by a Jacobite sympathiser. For example, 'by <?> the old cause' added to one ending 'a Country brought to Ruin, or in a fair way to it.'; 'in this world' added to one ending 'will never come to Light.'; 'in a publick manur' added to one ending 'the secret Treaty now concluded.'; also 'much adoe about nothin'. Scarce: all but a handful of the entries on COPAC are for facsimiles. No 'finis' at end, but complete according to COPAC entries.

The four items, all on aged and lightly spotted paper, are attached by four rusty staples. One (five pages, octavo): In reply to the firm's inquiry regarding 'the prevention of rising spaces in Monotype', Marshall states that, instead of giving information, he 'would rather send you the method and you try it out and prove for yourself its value, then pay me afterwards'.

Octavo, 16 pages. In original cream wraps, tied with blue ribbon, and with the insignia of the Lodge printed on the front. Good, if a little aged. Creased where folded in half. With the signatures of seven of the Lodge's members in pencil on front wrap (Bob Bradley, P. H. Crozier, Herbert L. Hawkes and others). From the collection of the pamphlet's printer Robert W. Bradley, who is listed among the Lodge's Officers as 'Organist', and who signs 'Bob Bradley'.
