35pp., 8vo, red full leather gt (large gilt "D" for "Dilke"at centre front), aeg, marbled eps, front board detached, edges sl. chipped, worn and dulled. Inside front board, the bookplate of Charles Wentworth Dilke, with an additional small round printed label stating, "The Property of Sir Charles W. Dilke, 76 Sloane St. Catalogue No. [376]". Part of authorial inscription on titlepage removed by ruthless binder, leaving the words "hommage de | l'auteur", a Belgian economist, one of the co-founders of the Institut de Droit International in 1873 .Apparently a scarce pamphlet.

Written in a crabbed, difficult hand. ONE: 20 July 1884. 2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly-aged. Apparently writing to the publisher of the translation, he thanks him for the copies he has been sent, expressing 'l'honneur que vous m'avez fait en entreprennant cette edition'. TWO: London, 6 March [1888?]. 1p., 12mo. In fair condition, on aged and browned paper. A short letter, referring to Leppington.

Both items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. ONE: 1p., 8vo. Despite being unacquainted with 'M. Tirman', he offers to do his best to be of assistance to 'M. Emile Farrence'. Petit's letter, dated 19 May 1883 is on the reverse of the second leaf of the bifolium. Writing to one of the individuals mentioned in Leroy Beaulieu's letter, he explains that he is forwarding that letter, and asks for it to be returned to him on his arrival. TWO: 1p., 16mo. He apologises for making him wait 'deux jours de plus'.

5pp., 4to., with the last page a double-page fold-out on card, mainly comprising a table. Unbound. In fair condition, on lightly aged and creased paper. Stamp of the Leplay House Library in the top right-hand corner. 'SPECIMEN ISSUE' printed in the top left-hand corner of the first page. The full article is titled 'International Comparisons of the Purchasing Power of Money', with headings: 'Sources of Data on Prices', 'Other Sources', 'Re-Calculation of Purchasing Power of the £ in I.U., 1938', 'International Comparisions of the Purchasing Power of Money, 1946-47'.

Four pages, 8vo, bifolium, stab holes, formerly bound among advertising leaves of a periodical presumptively, wear and staining mainly to edges, but text clear and complete. The projectors (particularly James Mill, father of John Stuart Mill) "have long been of the opinion, that a publication devoted to the dissemination of liberal and useful knowledge, on a more comprehensive plan than any which has yet appeared [including] New Discoveries in the Arts and Sciences". No other hard copy of the item has been recorded. The periodical survived from 1830-1806.

Postcard, 12 lines on one side, address on other. "I saw Galton F.W. Galton, sometime secretary to the Webbs] today, & he promised to put the pamphlet before his C[ommit]tee. He seemed to think that they would quite probably undertake the publication. I presume this would be acceptable in case no further progress has been made towards guarantee. He said they would not [underlined] subsidise publication by another body [...] a promising opening." Slater tarted the addess with "F.W." (crossed out) supporting identification of F.W. Galton.

One page, 16mo, good condition. "With Sir John Sinclair's best respects - He thought that the Duke of Atholl would like to see the copy of so interesting a letter from so respectable a countryman, as General Stewart of Garth."

The three volumes in folio, in their original printed blue wraps. First Report: viii + 364pp. With fold-out table. Second Report: viii + 276pp. Final Report: x + 157pp. All three aged and worn, with the final signature and back cover of the First Report detached, and the Final Report lacking its back cover, and with front cover detached and damage to last few leaves. Second Report with withdrawn label of Owen College, Manchester. The three volumes all 'With Minutes of Evidence and Appendices'. Containing an enormous quantity of information within the minutes and supporting material.

Eight pages, 4to, stapled, as issued, light foxing throughout, fold at middle, good condition. First page (title) contains a brief list of recipients, including Alan Brooke, Keynes to become "Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa)", each recipient being the subject of a one page encomium in Latin. Keynes's commences, "inter hospites praeclaros nostrorum unum honorare gaudemus, [...]" The previous owner, "Lt [?] E. Weber, KOSB", has signed to top of first page.

Clipped signature, c. 5 x 2cm, good condition.

ALS, 14 Brookside, Cambridge; 19 August [1928], 2pp., 12mo, good condition. Written on returning the proofs of two articles. 'I see you have cut out my proof of the early intrusion of the Friar Tuck element into the Robin Hood cycle: - the only piece of information in the article which a student could not easily find elsewhere! However, I don't suppose any students will bother about any part of these articles except the Bibliographies, so it probably doesn't matter.' He continues with a few scholarly points.

ALS, on letterhead of 3 Gayton Crescent, Hampstead; 25 April 1917, one page, 12mo, minor shading not affecting text. He is enclosing 'a little book written by my wife' (Ideals True and False by Florence Edgar Hobson), another copy of which has been sent to the Daily News, and he wonders 'if it is possible for space to be found for a notice of some kind'.

ALS, on letterhead of the Royal Societies Club, St James's St, SW1. 29 June [no year], 2p., 12mo. Returning proofs and offering his services for the 'reviewing of scientific books'.

1p., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Reads: 'Gentlemen/ | We are very much obliged to you for your offer of Fifty Shares in the Colombian mining Association which we have great pleasure in accepting. We did not make any application as we had hoped to have heard first from you on the subject.' The family firm of the economist and MP David Ricardo, who had been disowned on his marriage to a gentile in 1793. It did substantial business in the Hispanic world.

A total of 1290 pages, in six 4to notebooks. Internally clean, on lightly aged paper, in worn and repaired bindings, with the back cover of one of the volumes loose. Day has signed three of the covers, and decorated the cover of one volume with the crests of three Universities: Montenegro, St Andrews and London. All the texts are carefully written out Day's neat, close hand, with tables and graphs, some titles in red ink, and occasional pencil annotations. A list of the contents of the six volumes ends this description.

8pp., 12mo. Stapled. Aged and creased. On first page: 'It is not proposed to issue a complete programme for the Summer Term. This leaflet contains all additions and alterations in the announcements of lectures, classes and seminars made in the School Calendar, together with the General Time Table for the current Term.' The table covers the last four pages, and gives details of the Time; Short Title; Lecturer; No. of Course; Date of beginning. Lectures include 'The Constitution of the United States' by 'Prof. Westermarck', 'Economic History from 1485 (Class)' by 'Mr.

40pp., 12mo. Stitched and unbound. In good condition, lightly aged and worn, with slight damage to the fore-edge of the findal leaf. The title continues: 'and | An Attempt to develope [sic] the connexion (if any) between the changes observed and the variations occuring during the same period in the prices of the most necessary articles of food.'

[44]pp., 8vo, paginated 487-530. Rebound in modern red cloth binding, with red leather label on cover, with title 'ADDRESS TO HRH PRINCESS CHARLOTTE' in gilt. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn.

Four pages, 4to, unbound as issued, closed tears along fold marks, some foxing, text clear and complete. Form, "Proposal for Advance", partly filled in by Samuel John Smith, Gordon Cottages Cifton [sic] Road St Albans Herts", "Signalman on the Midland Railway". Other questions to answer include Amount required, For How Long and How proposed to be paid (the answer to this has been excised). Fee of £1.1.0 with application. Terms stated (eg regularity of payments).

The three items come from the papers of an Anglo-German City of London stockbroker, with Item One, below, indicating that he was based in Germany between 1898 and 1909, and that he had moved to England by 1917. A major point of interest is the fact that the material has been assembled by an educated, intelligent and well-informed individual with good knowledge of both German and English economic realities, at a time of high conflict between the two nations. ONE: 94pp., folio. In black cloth quarter-binding with brown marbled boards, and label of W. Harneit, Hamburg. Consisting of 88pp.

32pp., 8vo. In grey printed wraps. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn and aged wraps with front cover crossed through in red ink and hole to back cover. Shelfmarks, stamp and labels of the Board of Education Reference Library, London. Scarce: no copies on COPAC or OCLC WorldCat.

Both items in fair condition, on aged paper, with shelfmarks, stamps and labels of the Board of Education Reference Library. 'Brief Report': 32pp., foolscap 8vo. In fair condition, on lightly aged paper, in worn grey printed wraps strengthened at the spine with brown tape. Headings include 'Provision for training in Economics and Political Science', 'Character and Objects of School', 'Methods of Organisation', and 'Property of the School and the Library'. Also the 'complete curriculum of the School', pp.9-17, and list of lecturers (pp.17-20). 'A Brief Description': 7pp., 4to.

Both items are uniform in appearance, each 3pp., foolscap 8vo, with the texts printed in copperplate from engraved plates. Both in fair condition, on aged paper, and with loss along the spine where the two have been disbound. The reason for the printing of the two documents, as is clear from the text, is for their circulation to various banks. Baring's Letter: Facsimile signature reads '(signed) F. T. Baring', and is uniform with the copperplate text. The reason for the printing of the letter is for copies to be enclosed with Wickham's.

Total 6pp., 4to. Headed "COPY" in red, from the papers of Mark Bonham-Carter. LETTER ONE: He is trying to persuade Lady Bonham-Carter that her views of the future of the Liberal Party are valid and should be aired, given her "unique position in British Liberalism". She should not fear dividing the Party because "[he has] come to the regrettable conclusion that there is nothing to divide", and it is necessary to "revive sopme life in Liberalism".He comments on the leadership and individuals (C. Davies, for example) and the low state to which the party has descended.

27pp., 8vo, original printed front wrap, back wrap mainly detached, signs of having been bound up (wear at spine, page partly detached), some staining, contents fair. INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR, "H. Norman Esq. with kindest regards of F. Marion Crawford | Aug. 11 | 1881 |" [Henry Norman, "English journalist and Liberal politician "]. Minor correction in blue crayon (hand unknown), omission of several words and phrases on last page.. This was published before his first published novel. A financial tract (currency etc). No copy listed on COPAC, six copies listed (USA) on WorldCat.

70pp., 12mo. In very good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in sturdy notebook with green and black marbled boards and black cloth spine. Label in French and German on front pastedown. Apparently mainly the work of S. T. Cross, with the sections in French by his wife. There appear to be three children: Titi, Ann and Matilda. The main body of the volume gives (on 48pp.) 'Alice's a/c General Expenses at Wadhurst'.

4pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Closely written. He feels that he can give an account 'sufficient for yr. purposes without risking inaccuracies wh. opponents might attack'. He begins as follows: 'You are probably aware that after the fiscal follies of the earlier part of the last century the people of the United States resolutely set their faces against taxation except for revenue purposes for the absolute necessities of the Govt.
