1p., landscape 12mo. In fair condition, on aged and dusty paper. The receipt, for £19 5s 4d, is printed, and completed in manuscript in another hand. Archer has signed over a red tax stamp: 'William Archer | 7/12/06'. Stamped, and numbered '2801' in blue pencil. In top right-hand corner, in the same hand as the receipt: 'C. B. 215'.

Autograph Letter Signed ('E Rhys') from the author and editor Ernest Rhys (founder of 'Everyman's Library) to 'Dear Gilmer' [the literary agent J. W. Gilmer, of the Authors' Syndicate] regarding a reader's report and other editorial work.

On one side of a 18.5 x 20.5 cm piece of paper, the head of the letter, with address and date, having been cut away. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper. The letter reads: 'Dear Gilmer, | Here is the "Reise - Kaiser"; - the Reader's Report, 2 more illustrations, a preface, & a 2nd appendix, will follow by later post. I have been kept in the country till to-day. | Yrs v. truly | [signed] E Rhys'.

Manuscript 'expert's Report of the Malacate Mines' in Mexico by metallurgist Edward Halse, ARSM, MIMM, prepared for Messrs Bourke, Sandys & Co, London, with three Typed Letters Signed from the firm, to R. Hanrott (2), and Hon. M. E. M. Sandys.

Halse's report, to Messrs Bourke, Sandys & Co., London, is headed 'Malacate'. 16pp., 8vo. Neatly written out, with marginal chapter headings, beginning: 'Situation of Mines', 'Roads', 'Freight Rates', 'Mining Claims', 'Timber and Water', 'History of the Property and Titles'.

Typed Letters Signed from Frank E. Wright, President, and W. T. Adair, Vice President and General Manager, Syndicate Publishing Company, New York, to Sydney Walton (later Lloyd George's spin doctor), on his employment in the firm's London office.

The letters provide a fascinating insight into the development of the transatlantic publishing industry. They are closely typed with single spacing, and both centre around Walton's employment situation and his complaints about the sending over from America of 'Mr. Russell', about whose 'absolute worthlessness to the business' he complains. Adair's letter: 2pp., 4to. Good, on lightly-aged paper.
