2pp., 12mo. In very good condition: lightly-aged and creased. Writing to 'My dear Blumenfeld', Gough begins with a few lines on 'your correspondent, Muir' (with reference to Blumenfeld's 'Yankee' origins -which also included strong anti-Communist sentiment), before giving a general analysis. 'This is a most complex situation out here, as there are so many interests pulling different ways - it is not always easy to see one's way clear.

Two journals by the same anonymous British author, the first describing a trip to the Arctic Circle in Norway in 1963, and the second a camping trip to Denmark, Finland and Sweden in 1964.

Both items in good condition, in worn wraps, on lightly-aged paper. The two journals give bright, pleasant accounts of the two trips. The author appears to be a British woman, whose husband is named Sidney. FIRST JOURNAL: 60pp., small 4to. Two pencil drawings. In 'Baberton spiral note book'. Two items (a guide to Tromsø Domkirke and a receipt) loosely inserted. The first entry reads: 'Arrived Bergen 1600 1/2 late owing to fog on way over. Also fairly choppy towards end of crossing. Oil trouble with ar so went to a Garage directed by young man who squeezed in amongst luggage.

Autograph Signature ('Z. Topelius.') of the Finnish novelist Zachris Topelius, endorsing a cheque from his translator Ella R. Christie.

Finnish novelist Zachris Topelius

Cheque, printed in blue. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Written out for ten pounds and signed 'Ella R. Christie'. With various stamps and perforations, not affecting Topelius's signature. Christie's translation from Topelius, 'Fairy Tales from Finland', was published by T. Fisher Unwin in 1896.

Governor-General of Finland 1866-1881. In French, a large hand, but some hard to read (hence dots). Two pages, fomerly torn in four pieces, crudely sellotaped together, text clear and complete, as follows: "Le porteur de ces ligues, Monsieur Stepanof, dont je vous avais porte il y a et cela quelques mois, merite d'etre employe. Il est parfaitement recommande et [?] de l'experience en affaires. Son frere est membre de Comite [F...?] . . . Je crois vous rendre service . . ."
