From autograph album and mounted on larger piece of light blue paper. Reads '[...] | it will save confidencce. | In gt. haste | Yrs. truly | A. E. Bayly.' Docketed '(Edna Lyall)' in pencil beneath signature.

Manx novelist (1853-1931). Paper dimensions roughly three inches by one and a half. Very good. Reads 'Yours vy truly | Hall Caine'.

English aristocrat (1838-1919), author of 'Safe studies', 'Nuts and chestnuts', etc. etc. Paper dimensions roughly four inches by two inches. Very good. From autograph album. Mounted on larger piece of cream paper. Written in lilac pencil. Reads 'Lionel A Tollemache'. Docketed at foot in pencil.

Scottish novelist (1828-97). On piece of laid paper, dimensions roughly 4 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches, with mourning border. Paper discoloured and stained from previous mounting. Reads '[...] convenient? - It would be very good of you and enable us to have a double pleasure - With kind regards, believe me, | very truly yours | 'M. O. W. Oliphant | Friday -'.

English novelist (1799-1860). On fragment of paper approximately 4 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. In poor condition: creased and discoloured from previous mounting. Reads 'Your most faithful Servant, | G. P. R James'. Docketed on reverse 'March | - | Ap 28 | a 2 May'.

English novelist (1823-1901). Paper dimensions: 1 inch by 4 1/4 inches. Paper creased, browning and with discoloration from previous mounting. Reads 'Your most loving | C M Yonge'. On reverse: 'More of a woman She | might do something'.

Novelist, brother of Charles (see DNB). Part of a letter, c.3.5" x 2.5", laid down on slightly larger card, trimmed, good condition, text as follows: "most happy to be at the Spot named with an enormous [underlined] appetite. / Very faithfully yours / Henry Kingsley".

One of the greatest of all English/American novelists (1843-1916; DNB, etc). 1 page, 8vo. Grubby, creased, frayed and worn. Unobtrusively repaired with archival tape. Reads 'Mr. Henry James encloses cheque for £9. 11. 0. | Messrs. Wright & Pankhurst | Rye | January 5th 1912'. Wright & Pankhurst would appear to have been local stationers or printers. An unusual autograph item.

American Crime Writer. One page, 4to. He refers to his just having been welcomed into the Crime Writers' Association but has been too busy to reply sooner. He has ben packing and trying to "finish a novel (which failed)". He very much appreciates meeting CWA members. He adds that "the book is now en route for Crime Club" giving him the opportunity to look about him. He would welcome CWA visitors and prmises a good cup of tea from his Australian mother-in-law".

Novelist and politician (1765-1846). One page, 8vo. (He is writing to his former colleague in the Ordnance Office where he was a clerk from 1811 to 1823). He asks him to forward an important packet and recalls "pleasant remembrances of former intercourse".
