Shrubsole was a frequent contributor to the Manchester Guardian, and its obituary of 21 May 1927 was headed 'DEATH OF GREAT SHEERNESS GEOLOGIST WHO WON FAME THROUGHOUT THE WORLD' ('Experts in every continent sought his wonderful advice, and it was during his researches at Sheppey that he made many valuable discoveries. Below we are able to give a detailed account of his brilliant career. He was a frequent contributor to the columns of the "Guardian" up to the time of his death.'). 3pp., foolscap 8vo, in a bifolium. Thirty pages, on both sides of fifteen leaves of landscape folio, with each leaf folded in to give the item a 4to shape. Paginated 389 to 418, and printed in double column. Disbound. Stitched as issued, with uncut edges. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper. Excerpted from the Proceedings of the Royal Society, London, 1778. ESTC citation number N72283. The first two pages comprise an 'Explanation to the Columns' which form the rest of the paper, these being detailed meteorological tables.

Landscape 12mo (12.5 x 20.5 cm), 2 pp. Good, on lightly-aged and creased paper, with pinhole to one top corner. Concerning a meeting at the Society, Murray is 'so glad to hear that His Excellency, the Greek Minister has consented to take the Chair'. 'My lecture on Hellenism will be practically the same as that which I gave on January 21st to the Royal Institution, [...] I hardly think you will wish to print it again, [...] I did not know when accepting your invitation that you proposed to publish the lecture afterwards.
