Both items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. ONE: 2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. He writes that he will be 'glad to receive your future contributions', but that 'a different style of annotation would make them more interesting to the general reader. - To the possessors of Henderson your remarks will be useful and interesting; but the article is not one to be read throughout by those who do not possess Henderson's work'. He suggests that 'a better plan would be to take a definite prophecy, print the whole of it with corrections or marks'.

2pp., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. In worn envelope, with stamp and postmark, addressed by Manners to 'John Baron Esq | 48 Griffin Street | Witton | Blackburn.' Regarding his books 'England's Trust and Other Poems' (1841) and 'English Ballads and Other Poems (1850), Manners begins the letter by apologising for not being able to give 'very definite information respecting my two little volumes of poetry.

The first three items are 4to, with the first two of two pages and the last of one page, all with a brown border. The fourth item is 12mo, 1 p. The quarto items have some creasing and discoloration to the extremities, and a few closed tears. The 12mo item is good. Text of all four letters clear and entire. The correspondence concerns Crouch's application for membership. He gives the names of individuals who 'have signified their willingness to second' Crouch: Sir William Wayland, M.P.

LETTER: '[...] The only other things I go in for are Early English Furniture and Early MS. letters. If by any chance you come across any of these I should be very grateful indeed if you would let me know'. NOTE: 'Many thanks | I enclose 12/- for the two plates.'

Laird (presumably the 'Francis Laird of Peterborough Court Fleet Street' whose will was proved in May 1825) was the author of 'A topographical and historical description of the County of Rutland' (1815) and 'A topographical and historical description of the County of Worcester' (1818). Upcott (1779-1845) was a noted aniquary and collector of autographs. One page, quarto. In poor condition, grubby and creased, with fraying to extremities and traces of mount and some loss to one edge (affecting one word of text). Repaired loss of triangular fragment from breaking open wafer.
