2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Addressed on reverse of second leaf, with Stewart's seal in red wax, to 'Mr. Knobel | Wine Merchant | South Audley Street'. He asks Knobel to 'send a person & a Hamper to pack up three dozen of wine & ale left at the Major General's for the Country, as before'. He asks for the hamper to be sent, 'so packed & sealed, together with 3 dozen hamper of His, (Mr. Knobel's) best Port ready for immediate drinking by the Hoy to Woodbridge in Suffolk, as last winter'.

Sprague has only just received his recipient's letter, 'with its invaluable accompaniment', presuming that it was detained at New York for more than two months. All the silhouettes are cut from black card, and all but one are head and shoulder portraits. 52 are laid down on the rectos of the 17 leaves of a landscape 8vo (23 x 14 cm.) notebook of Whatman paper, stitched with grey wraps. They range from two to eight silhouettes to a page, and with the silhouettes ranging in height from 5.5 cm. to 10 cm. Two others are loosely inserted within makeshift mounts on the last leaf.
