4to, 36 pp and a manuscript title-page. All texts clear and complete. Disbound (from a commonplace book?) and apparently complete. Fair, on aged, brittle gilt-edged paper, with a few closed tears (in particular to the last couple of leaves). The book is presumably in Mrs Macdonald's hand, and the only indication to her identity is the final note (see below), signed 'F. M. M.', which shows her to have been an educated member of the middle classes. Divided into three parts. The first part is 'Useful Remarks for the Mistress of a House' (25 pp, paginated from 1 to 23).

Single column (23 x 6 cm) on one side of piece of paper 34 x 21.5 cm. 72 lines of text. Clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged, creased paper. Small closed tear to central horizontal fold. Lists the infectious diseases of which notification is required ('Small Pox, Cholera, Diptheria, Membranous Croup, Erysipelas, Scarlatina, or ScarletFever, and also Typhus, Typhoid, Enteric, Relapsing, Continued, or Puerperal Fever'), and gives the duties of medical practitioners and the penalties for failing to comply.

8vo, lxxii + 499 pp. In original embossed brown cloth, gilt, with wear to hinges. Binders ticket of Remnant and Edmonds, London. A tight copy, on lightly-aged and foxed paper, in fair binding with wear to hinges. Inscribed at head of title: 'Presented - | To George F. Knipe Esqre. with Dr. Turley's Compts | 1854 -'. (There are references to Turley on pp. vi and 41 of the book. Turley and Knipe were provincial surgeons of relative proximity: Knipe at Stratford-upon-Avon and Turley at Worcester.

Earl of Cranbrook. [On 2 July, Hardy was appointed to the Poor Law Board.] Statesman. One page, 8vo, laid down with envelope (stamped and addressed and counter-signed by Hardy, good condition. He thanks her for her "pamphlet on Cholera and its cure. I will submit it ot some more competent judge of the matter than I am." [Pamphlet not traced but a BLC search incovers over 100 titles involving cholera for the year 1866 alone.]
