He asks her to choose between Lawrence and Palestine as subjects for his talk, or"Atlantic to Gulf" (REVERSE: one page of extenssively corrected manuscript of an article about Palestine in 1918, Allenby, effect of the Balfour Declaration, Military Administration - Storrs being present); (April 1944) He suggests a talk entitled "From Portugal to Persia in War"; (1946) He is unable to accept a luncheon appointment. The most substantial letter is sl. damaged, marginally affecting text. 5 items,

Vice-President of the Royal Asiatic Society, etc. (significant in Ceylon) (1775-1849). "Mr Vigne {traveller, incl. Tibet] who has just returned from a seven year tour which he has made through Thibet Cachmere (sic) Cabul & Candahar . . ." has given Lady Johnston (his wife) permission to see his drawings at the Asiatic Society. He also is going and invites his correspondent and Mrs Stanhope to join them.

Author and positivist (1831-1923). 4pp., 4to, He is responding to an appeal from the "Gould Committee", formed when Gould ceased to be teacher for the Moral Education League. Harrison goes into detailed discussion of the implications, prophesying economic difficulties for years to come.

One page, 8vo. French rights of "The Brass Bottle" already settled. With: Autograph Letter Signed, one page, 8vo, F.W. Pemberton, on Anstey's behalf, to Mrs Fisher on the same matter. Two items,

Scottish writer, sportsman and naturalist (1845-1937). 4pp., 4to. He gives detailed answers to questions about members of the Douglas family and finally refers Sladen to his book, "The Story of the Tweed".

Zoologist (1861-1933). Two of the cards say very little. The third is as follows: "'Nature' remains, more or less wisely, on an altitude. Books brought ot the altar will be reviewed. Others won't. If Prof. Carr sends a copy to 'Nature', as surely should have been done on publication, the all-highest Editor may send it to me for review, and for return therafter to the alter (sic). As far as \i know, this is the invariable rule. Of course I shall be glad to call attention to first-rate work." 3 items,

Architect (1849-1930). He thanks him effusively for his congratulations, finding them especially gratifying from a member of his own profession.

Prussian ambassador. One page, 8vo. He announces his arrival (in Italy), gives informnation about his post and what he wants done with it.

Political economist (1807-1888). Price appears to be responding to a work of Young's (probably " Imperial Federation of Great Britain and her Colonies. In letters edited by F. Y., (London, 1876)". He admires Young's enthusiasm but cannot himself "go into a definite Federated scheme as <?> as you do". He explains why, dintroducing the Great Powers, the Turks rotting, Russia advancing to the Bosphorus, and so on.

Antiquary (1807-1890). He complains mildly that "the Adelphi order" (for complimentary tickets, presumably) "was refused, one signed by you having already been presented.He asks for one for "either of the theatres" for the following week. Folds, traces of mount.

Sometime Gen Manager of the S.E. Railway Co. (1820-1874). One page, 4to, saying that the Queen will meet the Prince [Albert} but wishes "particularly" that the Prince should not know until his arrival (much of this heavily underlined).

Novelist. One page, 8vo. He accepts an invitation to speak at the Conference of the Society of Musicians.

Statesman (1802-1869). He will be happy to promote a friend of Lady Leicester's if a vacancy occurs at Fakenham. As to Mr Payne, his brother has received an appointmen, and his would cause jealousy. He will respond to such requests in future if he can.

Bishop of Oxford and theologian (1851-1911). One page, 8vo. He would like his correspondent to let Max Muller know when a deferred luncheon is to be held. He will be writing to Dean Liddell (presumably on the same subject).

High Master of St Paul's (1830-1910). One page, 8vo. He gives thanks for a book, adding that "In my younger days I used continuously & valued your abstracts of Gk & Roman History & notes on Herodotus".
