The letter begins: 'My very dear Sir, | I have taken the Salle Robin and called it The Myriographic Hall, now I intend inviting the gentlemen of the Press on Thursday Evening March 3rd.

Unpublished early nineteenth-century manuscript poem, titled 'The Cockney Quack Doctor', satirising the London working clases and medical profession around the time of Dickens's 'Pickwick Papers'.

1p., 8vo. Aged and worn, having previously been folded into a tight packet, and laid down on a paper backing. Headed with the title, and neatly written in two columns. The poem consists of 60 lines arranged in six stanzas. The first and last stanzas indicate the tone.

Autograph Letter, in the third person, from 'Baroness Burdett-Coutts' [Angela Georgina Burdett-Coutts] to 'Mr. Johnson', regarding 'the seal of the late Bishop' and the memorial to 'her old friend Dr. Hill'.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Good, on lightly-aged paper. She has delayed writing 'till she could send the seal of the late Bishop (which she would like returned at Mr. Johnson's convenience)'. As it is 'the original, and therefore recorded', she thinks 'it would be as well to adhere to it'. She does not have ' a coloured sketch, so cannot answer the questions but doubtless all information would be given by the College of Heralds'. She concludes by stating that she is 'very pleased that a memorial will be raised to her old friend Dr. Hill, in the Parish where he worked so long and so well.'

Presumably taken on Dickens's second reading tour of the United States. Roughly 2 1/4 by 3 3/4 inches. Slightly faded, but a good, clear image, though somewhat grubby and with minor ink spotting, mainly around the subject's arms. Mounted on photographer's card, which has on reverse charming illustration of cherub with palette in hand sitting on book and painting the photographer's details onto board on easel. Traces of previous black-paper mount adhering to reverse (not affecting image), which is docketed in pencil.
