In good condition, with slight creasing and discoloration at foot. He is sending a receipt for Hill-Trevor's 'entrance fee and subscription to this Society', and discusses subscription matters. Head's letter: 2pp., 12mo. Very good, on lightly-aged paper.

Both items are in very good condition, with minor signs of age. The first sewn with green ribbon, and both with the customary stamps, seals and other appurtenances. Two interesting and unusual indentures, showing the spread of the nineteenth-century British Empire. In eight numbered paragraphs, discussing: dragomans ('I was fortunate enough to secure a trustworthy native servant at Jaffa, who had all the knowledge & experience of a dragoman, without the insolence & extravagance which is common to the class. His name was Abdullah of Bethlehem. [...] He charged me on an average £1.

Quaker author, editor and member of the London banking family (fl.1847), several of whose manuscripts are now in the Society of Friends' Library. Eight pages, quarto. Good, on lightly creased and discoloured paper. A long 'improving' letter. Begins by discussing his return from Polam in Bedfordshire, and a railway journey taking in York.

LETTER ONE: One page, 12mo. Good, with several creases from folding. Concerns the repayment of a bond of £2500. 'I shall be glad to receive the money for it through Messrs Barclay & Co who will present the Bond duly receipted on your informing them where the Bond will be paid off.' Signed 'J Gurney Barclay'. Docketed on reverse 'Jos: G Barclay | Bond 58/107 £2500 | to be paid off | June 30: 1857'. LETTER TWO: Two pages, quarto. Good, though creased and with small closed tear repaired with archival tape.
