Butler's compts.' Covering the history of the city from the time of Ptolemy to the advent of the electric tram. Ends by noting the extensive rebuilding in the city, 'in part due to the reconstruction of areas destroyed in 1916 and 1922'. Scarce: no copies on COPAC or OCLC WorldCat.

11pp., 4to. With three plates and five figures in text. Paginated 292-302. Stapled in card wraps. Inscribed on front cover: 'with best wishes | B.A.R.C.' The only copies on COPAC at the Warburg Institute and V & A.

12pp., 8vo. Stapled and unbound. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Stamped at head of first page: 'Uberreicht vom Verfasser.", with the word 'DIETETICS' written beneath this in red ink. Scarce: no copies at the Wellcome or on COPAC, and the only copy on OCLC WorldCat at Basel.

Printed on a piece of 14 x 9.5 cm india paper, laid down on a piece of 17 x 11.5 cm card, with rounded edges. Aged and faded, but nevertheless a nice item of Dickensiana. A sensitive study of Dickens's face, above a heavily-faded facsimile of his signature. Printed at the head of the card is 'R. LEHMANN'S PORTRAIT STUDIES.' And at the foot: 'CHARLES DICKENS | FRED.

From the papers of the nuclear physicist Robert Kersey Green. The collection contains periodicals, advertisements, handbills, prospectuses (one damp damaged), reports, form, invitations, two cards and a ticket. In fair condition, on aged paper, and with a couple of items carrying traces of damp. Five sets of accounts, four for Edinburgh, 1958 and 1963, and one for Garvald (see below), of which four are typed copies and one in manuscript ('Notes re 76 Polwarth Terrace'). Mounted long black and white photograph of architectural model, captioned on reverse 'SCHOOL.

Three pages of text, beginning: 'Sunfield is a Home and School for handicapped children who are unable to receive an ordinary schooling, and who therefore need the help of curative education and special care in their home life.' Photograph on front cover of 'The Main House and St. Mary's', and full-page photograph on fourth page of seven girls and boys playing in a class.

From the papers of Major Reginald Kersey Green and his son the nuclear physicist Robert Kersey Green. The magazines are mostly in 4to, and the advertisements mostly in 12mo. Printed in a variety of styles on a range of different coloured papers, with illustrations and photographs. In good condition, on aged paper, except for one heavily-stained item, and another with light staining to back wrap. Comprising: ONE. 'The Weleda Journal' ('Gratis to all interested in the Weleda'), No. 1, September 1938.

Hassler begins: 'The peculiar position in which I am, will plead my excuse for addressing you the enclosed papers, and the cold which I have, for not coming personally in the present bad weather, as I intended, and shall do soon as admissible.' He asks Spencer to visit 'this Office before Your ultimate decision upon the plan of Operation for the Coast Survey'.

8vo: 14 pp, paginated 114-127. Presentation copy, inscribed on first page 'With the compliments of the author.' First page stamped 'DIE SCHRIFT | III J. 3 NR. | VERLAG RUDOLF M. ROHRER, BRUNN.' On browned, high-acidity paper, with chipping and flaking to extremities of first leaf. Four facsimiles of handwriting in text.

American physician and explorer of Africa (1866-1939). The recipient was Assistant Secretary at the Natural History Museum, London. One page, 12mo. Good, on slightly discoloured paper, and with remains of stub still neatly attached to one edge. A significant letter, sent on the eve of Donaldson Smith's most notable expedition. 'Just a line in haste to tell you I & Dodson [a taxidermist engaged for the expedition] are ready to start for Rudolph Gillitt [another taxidermist] having left for England after hearing of his father's death.
