2pp., folio. Bifolium. In small type. Containing two copies of a printed circular by McIlquham, on Cheltenham Rural District Council letterhead, dated 14 September 1906. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. The memorandum is divided into five sections, and begins by putting the Council's position that 'Motor Cars travelling at high speed in dry weather along the unwatered roads of country districts occasion an intolerable dust nuisance to other users of the highway, and seriously prejudice the comfort and even the health of the inhabitants of road-side dwellings'.

Disbound,[iii]-viii; 9-40, presumably lacking hf-title in binding, minor foxing, good condition. WITH: A Statement by a Charles Crump about the manufacturing process (using oil of vitriol etc) and sale procedure for "Salts in Mr Henry Thompson's Manufactory of Salts at Cheltenham", witnessed by Adam Neale and sworn before Jame Clutterbuck, one page. folded, attached to Neale's pamphlet. Four or so copies of Neale's pamphlet on COPAC. The addition is untraced.

Three lines deleted on p.14. Uncommon: a total of six copies found on COPAC and OCLC WorldCat, none of them in North America.

Two 8vo pamphlets entitled "Training Department of the Cheltenham Ladies' College" , 1899 and 1903, with twelve (12) pamphlets entitled "Prospectus of the Cheltenham Ladies' College Teachers' Training Department", unbound, c.9-11 pages each, 8vo, with Board of Education stamps, numbers and labels (stamps usually on front, labels on back). All give information about staff, courses, accommodation, qualifications, etc. Note: Se Josephine Kamm's "Hope Deferred (Routledge Revivals): Girls' Education in English History"for thinformation and context.

Printed in black on a 25 x 20 cm piece of grey paper. In very good condition, lightly aged. Beneath the title is a 5 x 11 cm engraving of the cart, followed by a seven-line description, and the prices for five sizes of the cart, with the capacity of each in gallons. The firm's address is at the foot, with the slug centred below it outside the border. From the archive of Cheney & Sons, 'General, Commercial & Artistic Printers, Banbury'.

Both items 2pp., 12mo. Both in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with slight evidence of previous mounting. The first letter (addressed to 'The Editor | Cambridge Daily News') begins: 'When I received my L.L.D Degree from the University (in June 1931) you published in your issue of June 6, some photographs of the procession to the Senate House on that occasion.' He is writing 'on the off chance' that 'original prints' survive, 'as I am most anxious to obtain one, for my Autobiography, if it is in any way possible to do so'. In the second letter (to 'Mr.

On one side of a piece of wove paper, 15.5 x 9.5 cm. In fair condition, on aged paper, with one creased corner and a small nick at the head. The drop-head title is in capitals, with the second line having only the opening quotation marks (before the initial word 'BEWARE'). The poem is 29 lines long, with three seven-line stanzas followed by an eight-line one. At the foot of the poem: 'Albury. Mary Frances Tupper.' The first stanza reads 'The stamp of Rome is on their heart, | Take care! take care! | They play the Jesuits' crafty part, | Beware! beware!

Both letter and description on the same bifolium. Letter: 1p., 12mo. On recto of first leaf. Description (headed 'Johnian System of Marking'): lengthwise across the verso of the first leaf and recto of the second, and thus making 1p., 8vo. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. Calverley begins by wondering whether he has 'made the Johnian System [...] intelligible' in his description.

12mo, 55 pp. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Most pages ruled with red lines. Texts of poem and preface, in a number of different-coloured inks, on right-hand side, with the facing reverses carrying corresponding notes and half a dozen charming vignettes (woman at writing desk, cabman dying of apoplexy at dinner, his widow atop the moving hearse). In original quarter binding of cream paper boards with gold star design, and red leather spine; decorative printed endpapers (rear free endpaper lacking). A well-executed and extremely attractive item.

4to, 3 pp. Bifolium. On grey paper. Text clear and complete. Good, lightly creased and aged, with part of stub adhering. Highton's entry in the Oxford DNB makes no mention of the controversy surrounding his administration at Cheltenham, where he was headmaster from 1859 to 1862.

12mo, 1 p. Fair, on lightly-aged, slightly-grubby paper with small dogears to a couple of corners. Reads 'June 13th. | Dear Mrs Barrow, | It is very kind of you to meet me. I shall hope to arrive punctually. | Yours sincerely | [signed] Dorothea Beale'.
