1862 Diary of Sergeant Browne, principal flautist in the Royal Artillery band, Woolwich, Over 425 pages. Played at the opening ceremony of the International Exhibition under Costa, having been at the rehearsal attended by Meyerbeer - good descriptions of both events - and at the Horticultural Gardens next door throughout the length of the exhibition and elsewhere (Crystal Palace, Willis's Rooms, private houses, Lord Mayor's Show "nonsensical custom").

The collection is in good condition, on lightly aged and worn paper, and can be grouped into three sections. ONE: Complete typewritten draft ([3] + 44pp., 4to) of Sussman's unpublished monograph on Bloch is contained in a large brown envelope, with the following note by Sussman on the front: '2ND COPY (without illustrations) of "Ernest Bloch - Music's Prophet" | JS'. It includes the contents, list of illustrations, introduction, and two-page 'Key and Bibliography'.

4pp., 12mo. 65 lines of text. Bifolium. In fair condition: on aged paper with one dogeared corner. He begins by apologising for not returning her manuscript sooner: 'what with my Doctorate exam: and other things, I have been specially busy'. Having been 'completely through the MSS' he lists those he likes best: 'the Rhapsodies (especially No. 1 - also No. 5 and No. 3 - especially the opening subject of No. 5).

Autograph Score, signed ('Frederic Clay') by English composer Frederic Emes Clay, of his version of Emily Huntingdon Miller's hymn 'I love to hear the story'.

2pp., 8vo. On both sides of a leaf of scored 29.5 x 23 cm paper. Aged and folded. The first page is numbered 330 in the top left-hand corner, and headed "I love to hear the Story"'. The first page carries the first and third verses of Miller's hymn, scored for piano, signed at foot 'Frederic Clay.' On the reverse, with no heading, is the score of the second verse: 'I'm glad my blessed Saviour was once a child like me / To show how pure and holy His Little ones might be'.
