viii + 200pp., 8vo. In contemporary calf binding, brown endpapers. Internally good and tight, on lightly-aged paper; in heavily-worn binding with chipped black label. Eldon's circular armorial bookplate on reverse of front free endpaper, and his ownership signature ('Eldon') both above this and on the reverse of the following fly-leaf. The decay of the binding is unfortunate as it has a restrained elegance, with spine in five compartments, blind-stamped pattern on the boards, and gilt dentelles.

Owing to a rash fit of indulgence in Church going I had to have tea elsewhere'. TWO: Letter of condolence on the death of Robert Lynd.

'Mr Westmacott [the sculptor Richard Westmacott the younger?]' has called on him, and he has 'shown him the settlement all down my Wall - I told him that you had seen it but did not contemplate any immediate danger - he said that Mr Valpy [Henry Valpy (fl.1851-1885) of the architects Burrell & Valpy] was out of town'. Westmacott will write to Valpy, as he thinks there ought to be 'a conference with' Lakyn, who 'should be requested to make a report'.

Pam. Vol. XI. P'. The following gives an impression of the sceptical tone in which this pamphlet is written. 'Your Society is declared to be, "for the preservation of public morals," a most praise-worthy and highly commendable institution. But how do you propose to preserve the public morals?

In worn and stained original grey wraps, repaired with strip of brown paper at spine. Three Latin poems by Valpy: 'Trafalgar', 'Plata Fluvius' and 'Delphi'. COPAC lists only three copies: at the British Library, the Bodleian and Durham.
