She is sending 'one line' to tell him 'how greatly all of us like the window, which was put up in the Church according to your promise before Easter Day'. She praises the 'beauty & harmony of colour', and the 'noble religious dignity of the principal figures' of the window, with 'the careful delicate treatment of every detail'.

A corrected draft, with the deleted original title reading 'Work & Wage in Downing St'. An interesting item, casting light on the working practices of a pioneer of parliamentary journalism. Begins: 'The keeness of competition for ministl office in Great Britain is certainly not inspired by sordid motive.'

4to, 2 pp. Bifolium. Twenty-eight lines of text. Clear and complete. On aged and stained paper. Docketed by the recipient on the reverse of the second leaf. The recipient drew up her will in 1819, but 'the many changes from Deaths &c which have since taken place' mean that it 'no longer expresses my wishes in several particulars'. Asks a number of questions. States that she is 'aware that as a married woman I have no right to make a Will but as in the former distribution of my property Sir George Scott authorized my doing so (as you many remember) so he will now any alteration'.

12mo, 1 p. Bifolium. Very good. On lightly-aged paper. She ends 'Excuse haste & incoherence' and the letter is certainly difficult to decipher. The recipient is 'right', and Mrs Clifford will be 'ready for a talk' any time after her return on Saturday.

Landscape 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Murdoch appears to have been 'misinformed as to Professor Murray having promised to write an article in support of Mr. G. K. Chesterton.' Murray is 'unable to undertake any more writing' as he is 'extremely busy at present'. According to Mair's entry in the Oxford DNB, from 1922 to 1927 she was employed by Gilbert Murray as his secretary-assistant in League of Nations affairs. Murdoch is not named, but the item comes from a batch of his correspondence relating to Chesterton's unsuccessful 1925 candidacy for the Rectorship of Glasgow University.

She has heard that he has 'been good enough to speak kindly of "Pauline" so far as it has gone', and wonders whether he would distribute, to 'such of yr. Friends as belong to Circulating Libraries', cards 'to let people know in time to order the book before it is out'. Her family are pleased that Macmillan has 'been able to spend a night at this beautiful sad home - It did my Father good, I know.

12mo, 4 pp. Good. A bifolium, attached by a strip along the inner margin to a leaf removed from an autograph album, docketed 'Mrs. Hobart Hampden, Authoress of "The Changed Cross" '. Postscript written vertically across the upper part of the first page. Concerns a photograph of the recipient's mother: a 'sweet souvenir of such a rare & precious jewel as your dear & beautiful Mother; whom we feel it such a privelidge [sic] to see and to know'.
