A curious production. The intent of the author (certainly Stevens) is to facilitate 'definite and permanent organisation', by his 'preparation of an Index of all the documents of American concern in private or public Archives of Great Britain, Holland, France and Spain that accumulated between the years 1763 and 1783'.

4pp., 12mo. In good condition, lightly-aged. She is especially pleased that he has agreed to speak at 'our meeting', as the League is 'always so anxious to have our meetings all-party ones - this one more especially so'. The theme of the meeting is the role of the Poles in the Second World War, and she describes the plan of the meeting, which is to include a speech by 'Major Beamish' on 'conditions in Poland'; and a resolution by the Dean of Chichester ('our Vice-Chairman'), seconded by 'Mr. O'Brien M.P. (Labour)'.

[6] + 66pp., 8vo. Disbound. In fair condition, on aged and spotted paper. Creuzer's work was controversial. He was attacked by Johann Gottfried Jakob Hermann, Johann Heinrich Voss and Christian Lobeck, and praised by Hegel.

On both sides of a 22 x 42 cm leaf, folding into six 22 x 14 cm pages. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. In small print. A few replacement speakers noted in manuscript. Details of the lectures for this four-day conference cover a page, with speakers including Anthony Eden (replaced by 'Mr Nutting'), Herbert Agar and Gunnar Myrdal (replaced by 'Mr Kenneth Yonge'). The rest of the pamphlet carries background notes, beginning: '"Europe 1953", the theme of our conference, is a challenging and topical subject. The face of Europe, as much as Africa and Asia, is changing.

Bilainkin had a particular interest in Yugoslavia, and these items date from around the time of the publication of his 'Four Weeks in Yugoslavia' in 1947, and biography of Tito two yeas later. Scarce: no copy in the British Library or on COPAC; and the only copy on WorldCat at Harvard, where it is attributed to Vallin.

Both engravings 8vo. Both by W. & J. Walker, from drawings by J. Dixon. Both impressively detailed, with that of the Royal Box showing crowds of fashionable people in the foreground. Both engravings are clear an complete, but with creasing from folding into the European Magazine. Both a little grubby, an with wear to the margins. The engraving of the organ has a strip of backing along the left-hand margin, and that of the royal box is mounted in a paper windowpane.

Unusual items, providing a first-hand glimpse into eighteenth-century European gastronomy, by one whose business was intimately connected with it. Texts of both items clear and complete. Both on aged, creased and worn paper. Item One: On one side of a piece of laid paper, 17 x 21 cm. Central vertical fold to make two sections, each with a square drawn in the centre, surrounded by names of foods.

Paper: 4to, 6 pp. With addendum slip of a third of a page. Text clear and complete. On aged paper and lightly-creased paper. Closely written, with several deletions. This paper held some significance for Bouthors. The 'Bulletins de la Société des antiquaires de Picardie' (1864) quotes an address by him, in which he describes that society as 'la fille de l'association des Congrès scientifiques de France.

Van Proosdij, Scientific Advisor to Messrs. Brill' loosely inserted. Divided into four parts: 'The Intellectual Background', 'Preparations and the Eve of the Day', 'The Dies Natalis' and 'Epilogue', with six appendices of passages from original sources, and a postscript of 'Four Letters from Madvig to Geel, Bake, and Cobet'.

Quarto: 196 + xii pp. 58 facsimiles in text, but lacking frontispiece. No dustwrapper. In original cloth binding, decorated on the front board in yellow, grey and black. Good, with spotting to edges and boards. Concentrating exclusively on German autographs. Wolbe was removed from his teaching post by the Nazis in 1933.

On piece of pink paper roughly 8.5 x 11 cm. Laid down on slightly larger leaf from an autograph album. Good with a little paper and glue staining to the mount. Good bold signature, diagonally across the page.

Dimensions of paper roughly twelve inches by ten; dimensions of print roughly nine and a half inches by seven and a half. A good clear impression, on aged, creased paper, of a striking illustration showing a portly and sleek Asperne, beautifully turned out in Freemason's robes and paraphernalia, holding a leather-bound book, and seated in an ornately carved wooden chair with the Freemasons' eye in a triangle at its head. Captioned 'Mr James Asperne | BOOKSELLER, CORNHILL, | Past Master of the FOUNDATION LODGE NO. 96 And St. Peter's No.. 249 | P.S.D. of the LODGE of Antiquity No.

One page, small octavo. Very good, though with a little offsetting of ink from folding of letter, and a small closed tear at head. A reply to a request for an autograph - in a close, neat, hand - reading 'Dear Sir | With much pleasure as I assure you that I am | Sincerely yours | Alfred Sutro'.

Russian linguist (died 1948), successively Assistant Lecturer in Russian, Liverpool University; University Reader in Russian, King's College, London; and Sir William Mather Professor of Russian, Manchester University. Both items two pages, 12mo. Both good, on discoloured paper and both docketed and bearing the Society's stamp. Item two carries two small pin holes.

Two pages, folio. Good, but on discoloured and lightly creased paper, with remains of stub adhering to one edge of verso. In English, with illegible signature. Begins 'The State Office of Statistics appreciating fully the great importance of an exact information of the British publicity of the conditions in the Czechoslovakia has the honour to send you simultaneously her following publications.' Five items listed.

English linguist and traveller (died 1923), founder (in 1893) and president of the Anglo-Russian Literary Society. One page, 16mo. Very good. Bearing the Society's stamp. 'I thank you for your kind invitation for the 28th Inst, of which I will be pleased to avail myself, if able to go to London.
