5pp., 4to. In good condition, on aged paper, with rust stains from paperclip. He begins by stating that he was 'an interested listener of your lecture against Theosophy yesterday afternoon, and as you were kind enough to invite questions I venture to make one or two criticisms which occurred to me'. The main purpose of the recipient's lecture, it seems to Boyd, is 'to demonstrate that Theosophy is incompatible with Christianity'. He proceeds opposes this strenuously, with reference to reincarnation and Kant.

Totalling 5pp., 4to, with Seward's poem on the first 3pp., and Hayley's on the following 2pp. Disbound from a notebook. In good condition, on lightly-aged and worn paper which has been cropped at the foot, resulting in the loss of two lines of text from Hayley's poem, and with the strip with the trimmed line from the foot of the first page of Seward's poem laid down at the head of the second page.

3pp., 4to. On bifolium. Very good, on lightly-aged paper, with thin strip of paper from mount adhering to reverse of second leaf, which is addressed, with half of a black wax seal, 'For | Mrs. Richards | Bampton.' This copy was made within a month of the composition of the poem, for the wife of a fellow Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford. The recto of the second leaf carries the following note by Mant: 'with Mr. Mant's best compliments to Mrs. Richards. | Oriel Coll. June 15th. 1803.' Beneath this, in a contemporary hand (presumably that of Mrs Parker): 'Afterwards Bishop of Down & Connor'.

2pp., 12mo. 21 lines of text. Good, on aged paper. She lists four 'figures of St Alexis' which she has found among her memoranda (the first: 'By B. Lutti - much praised by Lanzi - but I know not whether engraved'). Following the four is 'St Adrian. Domenichius Engraved by Gregori'. She asks: Have you any of these or could you procure them for me?' She will be in town the following day, and is 'in desperation about the St Alexis because the press is stopped for want of him - pray help me if you can!'

4pp., 12mo. On bifolium with mourning border. 36 lines of text. Good, on aged paper. She fears she has appeared 'most ungracious & unthankful' for not acknowledging his 'kind present of two very pretty and useful books'. She hope he will excuse her, as she 'received them in the country, whither I had gone to recover from a sharp illness'. Since her return 'the dangerous illness of a dear friend' has left her with 'neither thought nor leisure'. She will read the books carefully, and as she meditates 'a neighbourly visit to my good friends Mr & Mrs Cunningham I hope to meet you'.

On rectangle of paper, laid down on leaf removed from autograph album. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper. Reads 'Good wishes | Anna Neagle.' With two newspaper cuttings carrying photographic portraits, one loose and one laid down to the left of the signature.

Striking vellum document, 60 x 75 cm. Docketed on reverse. 32 lines of text, ruled with red lines, with ornate engraved decorative border along three sides, headed in large letters 'Victoria by the Grace of God', and depicting the young Queen, the royal crest, a crown held by a cherub, blind justice, and other images. Tax stamp in margin and frayed ribbon at foot. On 9 September [V Geo.

Dimensions of card 6 x 9 cm. Good. Printed on the card are the name 'Miss Anna Swanwick,' and the address. Written around the name in MS is 'Mr Palgrave, The Misses Palgrave from [Miss Anna Swanwick] With kindest regards and all the good wishes of the season.'

On both sides of the gilt-edged card, which is roughly 9 x 11.5 cm. Aged, but in fair condition. 'Mr Bosworth Smith' has informed her that her book 'Poets the Interpreters of Their Age' (1892) 'will be acceptable to the pupils of Harrow School', and she has 'great pleasure in presenting a copy to your library, & hoping that a kind welcome will be accorded to my little offering'. A postscript explains that the volume 'will be forwarded by an early post'.

Anglo-Irish author (1794-1860) and art critic. Paper dimensions roughly four and a half inches by two inches. Very good. From autograph album. Mounted on larger sheet of paper. Reads '[...] Oxford Street London for the next 3 weeks - Ever yours truly & affecly - | Anna Jameson'. Docketed in pencil at foot '(Legendary Art etc) | Written to my Mother - S[arah]. E[lizabeth]. S[iddons]. M[air].'

Irish-born author (1800-81; nee Fielding), wife of Samuel Carter Hall. On slip of paper roughly 14 centimeters by 2 centimeters. In good condition, although paper discoloured and with traces of glue from previous mounting on reverse. Apparently the foot of a page of printed accounts, with 'Brewster & West, Printers, Hand Court, Dowgate.' in bottom left-hand corner. 'To be returned to Mrs. S C Hall on or before the 1st. of June' written over the printed part, but the signature 'Anna Maria Hall' written across clear paper.
