In fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper, with remains of brown leather spine. The subject of the pamphlet is two proposals by Watson regarding 'the Revenues of the Bishops' and 'those of the inferior Clergy', both proposals 'tending to the same end; - not a parity of preferments, but a better apportioned distribution of what the State allows for the maintenance of the established clergy'.

A 'strong wish is entertained' that Stratford Canning's name 'be added to the Committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund'. He is enclosing a paper 'which will show its nature'. Canning notes that the letter was 'Ansd. 18 | No objection to be a member of the Committee provided I incur no responsibility beyond that of throwing an occasional mite into the subscription fund.'

Good, but with recto of leaf slightly smudged. Reads 'Dear Cardinal Vaughan | If half past nine is not too early I could come on Friday at that hour. I am afraid I cannot make it any later in the morning as I have to reach the City before 10.30. I could come on Friday Evening between 5 & 6 if that hour should suit you better'. With attractive pencil drawing of country house, and crude plan, in pencil on blank reverse of second leaf of bifoliate (conceivably drawn by the recipient, Croker). Among his many reasons for regretting 'the haste with which I was compelled to pass thro' London' on his way to Oxford was his 'disappointment at Kensington on Saturday'.
