Paper, 8.5 x 9cm, good condition. "Yours sincerely | Harold Larwood".

On 14 x 12.5 cm piece of card, with the cropped printed scorecard (completed in pencil in childish hand) on one side, and the autograph signatures on the otherwise-blank reverse. In good condition, lightly-aged. The five signatures are bold and strong in black ink, and read: 'P. Mead | Ed Tyldesley | E Hendren | J W Hearne | J W Hitch'.

2pp., 12mo. On leaf with mourning border. He thanks him for his letters, and expresses disappointment that he 'could not come to the Cricket Match', which was 'not finished, but decided in favour of Knebworth according to the score of the first Innings'. He asks him to obtain 'estimates for lightening [sic] conductors to each of the 8 turrets at Knebworth'. He fears that 'these copper domes are themselves lightening conductors which are now cut offf from all communcation with the earth'.

[ii] + 333 pp., 12mo. In yellow card covers, printed in green and red. A note on p.58 explains that the volume contains 'a large number of Advertisements of leading Houses, who cater for all kinds of Sport.

4pp., 4to. Bifolium. Complete issue, paginated 115-118. In fair condition, worn and aged. An attractive production, printed in black, with the masthead featuring the regiment's badge in green ink. 14 x 19.5 cm lithographic illustration by 'RF' on the front page, showing the library building in its setting, with a simple charm. The accompanying article reports on the centenary celebrations. 'To Captain, afterwards Colonel Drinkwater the historian of the memorable siege of Gibraltar are we indebted for the origin of this excellent institution. Thanks to the generosity of H.R.H.

1p., 8vo. In good condition, lightly creased. Although it is 'always difficult to nominate the best of anything' he would say that Bradman was the best batsman, Sobers the best allrounder and Warne the best legspinner. 'All the others would be "one of the best."' His biggest influence was his father, 'an outstanding club cricketer in Sydney, and then, when I played first class cricket, Keith Miller, Arthur Morris and Ray Lindwall'. His hobbies are 'work and golf'.

A nice collection of souvenirs of a very exciting and interesting tour. The West Indies did very well indeed, beating England in the test series 3-1. ONE: The signatures on four pieces of paper, laid down on green 8vo paper backing, with card carrying maroon and black logo of 'West Indies | 1963 | England'. All in good condition, lightly-aged. First, signature of 'G Sobers' written across 22.5 x 11.5 cm magazine photograph of Sobers at the crease. Second, signature of 'W Hall' across 8 x 5 cm magazine photograph of face of 'WESLEY HALL (Barbados), age 25.', with swollen left eye.

Each 1p., 12mo. Both in fair condition, aged and worn. ONE (30 June 1898): 'Received an acct from you. The only error in it is that I dont owe you anything. I sent a cheque to settle up with you some months ago also an order for goods which you never sent so have not troubled you since'. He is returning the invoice. TWO (22 July 1898): 'In reply to yours yesterday I may tell you the goods for which you sent invoice were never supplied. So I cannot owe for them.' Three pages, 12mo, bifolium, vestiges of hinges on second leaf, fold marks, good condition. He apologises for nor answering before. "I'm afraid any amusing experiences in connection with Rugby Football are hardly printable but I will give you them for what they are worth. 1/ England v Wales 1905 @ Cardiff | I was leaving the playing pitch after the match (score Wales 25 Eng. 0) when a small boy selling 'death cards' came up to me & said 'death card of England, sir?'.

Eleven pages (one side of page only), folio, stapled one corner, fold mark down centre, good condition. Headings as follows: Matches 1969; The Guinness Cup 1968; Northern Cricket Union 1968; Leinster Senior Cricket; Donal Donovan, Report from Munster 1968. No other copy of this periodical has yet been traced (NLI, COPAC etc).

The letter reads: 'In reference to the last paragraph of your circular of May 27 I have to say that I have no "notable successes" of any of my students to report, since neither in any of the scholarships at Oxford or Cambridge for which our students compete do the subjects of my Lectures form any part of the examinations.'

Printed on both sides of a piece of 9 x 12.5 cm card, folded once to make a 9 x 6.25 cm bifolium, with the outer covers individual pages and the central opening a double-page spread. 4pp., 32mo (9 x 6.5cm). With shiny pink outer covers and matte white internal opening. In very good condition, very lightly aged. Tastefully printed, with the front cover within a decorative border, headed 'BANBURY | P.S.A. Cricket Club. | Season 1894.' and giving the names of the club officials, including Rev. H. Cubbon, President; Mr. Frank Lovegrove, Captain.

46pp., 4to. In attractive honey-coloured velvet cloth binding with 20 x 14 cm panel of old embroidery set into cover, decorative endpapers, and all edges gilt. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn binding. An illuminated title-page carries the following poem: 'To Hospitality, this book we dedicate, | To Ivy House - and all whose happy fate | Leads them to bide awhile beneath its roof.

A fine piece of cricket memorabilia: the signatures of all the players in one of the greatest cricket teams of all time, famous for being the first Test match side to play an entire tour of England without losing a match, a feat which earned them the nickname of 'The Invincibles'. On a 16 x 11 cm leaf, removed from an autograph album. In very good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Presented portrait-style, with 'AUSTRALIANS 1948' neatly written at the head.

Crisply printed on both sides of a piece of 15 x 11.5 cm card. In very good condition, lightly-aged. Priced at a penny, the scorecard is headed 'Reigate Priory Cricket Ground. | Surrey v. Oxford University. | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, June 21st, 22nd & 23rd, 1909.' Reverse carries an advertisement for J. Keasley & Sons, bakers, cooks and confectioners of Bell Street, Reigate. Oxford batted first, and the scorecard states that M. G. Salter is not out on 97, with A. J. Evans having been bowled by Platt for 47. The rest of the Oxford squad are J. A. Seitz, C. V. L. Hooman, C. S.

In six 'Boudoir' diaries (printed by Joseph Mead, London), of uniform format and layout, but in different colours. Very good, on aged paper, with slight damp damage to a couple of the worn bindings. Although containing numerous entries, the volumes are by no means completely full of entries: there are none, for example, beyond March in the 1907 volume, or beyond Apirl in the 1908 one. Of interest is the club's proximity to the Manor Ground, Plumstead, home until 1913 of the Woolwich Arsenal F.C.

99pp., 12mo. Eleven pages written in shorthand. In original brown calf binding, marbled endpapers. The front of the volume carries the inscribed on front free endpaper: 'Robert Johnson Junr. | February. 1846'. The text is in two parts, with 29pp. at the front of the volume (inc. 1p. in shorthand); and 70pp. (inc. 10pp. in shorthand) at the rear (with the volume turned upside down). Lightly-aged, and with a light bloom working out from gutter of central pages.

1p., 12mo. Good, on aged paper. She states that she will be 'happy to wait on Sir Stafford Northcote at 4 oclock on Wednesday the 30th instant as you mention'. Docketed by Benthall on reverse of second leaf of bifolium, 'Miss Carpenter | Oct: 15. 1867. | Will wait on you on Oct: 30. at 4 o'clock'. Benthall was described in Wisden as batting 'in an exceedingly pretty style, cutting beautifully to the off, and has made some capital scores in the best matches'.

2pp., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He writes that he has brought Miss Smith Dampier's play 'A Great Gentleman' up to London with him, and that it will be at Melrose's office in the afternoon. 'I have read it - but I do not like it as well as The Queen's Minister, from my own point of view, I mean. | The writing, of course, is what one would expect after reading Miss Smith Dampier's former play - but I had got a long way into the story before it gripped me'. He names the only two scenes which he sees 'vividly'.

ADVERTISEMENT: 4to, 4 pp. Bifolium. Printed in blue and red, in a variety of fonts and point sizes. Photograph of Sylvester on front page, which has a red border featuring illustrations of entertainments. Royal warrant at head: 'Under the distinguished patronage of his most gracious majesty the late King Edward the Seventh and Queen Alexandra, Sandringham, 1901 and 1902.' The centre pages begin 'W. G. S.

All 4to, with the letters totalling 22 pp, and the list of 'Funghi, East Kent' of 15 pp. All items clear and complete. Three leaves with light staining (one with short closed tear), otherwise all in good condition, on aged paper. All three in envelopes (lacking stamps), addressed by Clifton and with his seal in red wax. ONE. 4 October 1889. 4to, 12 pp. Begins: 'It seems a long time since we had a ramble on the Cuxton and Ralling hills from Cobham, and when I killed a viper; and I have been much amused at the apparent incredulity of a brother B.O.U. at the Dumpton Park rarities!

On watermarked paper roughly 13 x 20.5 cm. Dimensions of image 9 x 13 cm. With plate mark. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. Loosely attached to brown mount. Rare eighteenth-century cricket print from the June 1793 issue of the 'Sporting Magazine'. Cardus & Arlott state, in their 'Noblest Game' (1969), that 'This print, once barely considered, has lately become rare'.

12mo, 1 p. Bifolium. On aged and foxed grey paper. Reads 'June 20th | Dear Barnes | Selection Committee will be pleased if you will play for England v The Rest at Lords 29th. | Yours faithfull | [signed] Hawke'. Hawke was an England selector between 1899 and 1909, and Barnes, one of the finest bowlers in English history, made his international debut in 1901. I'm sure someone will tell me if this was Barnes's first game for England.

One page. On one side of a piece of watermarked, laid paper, 18 x 11.5 cm, with the reverse blank. On aged paper with slight loss to left-hand margin and slight stain beneath text at foot of page. Laid down on a leaf removed from an album.

Both photographs 23.5 x 18.5 cm, mounted on the sides of a leaf of discoloured paper removed from an album. Both in good condition, one with light fading to the extremities. Both pictures are elaborately-planned and well-executed. The first, filling the whole of the photographic paper, is bordered by foliage, with two Indian maidens flying at the head, and a group of hats and pith helmets at the foot, with two waiters (one with champagne in a cooler labelled 'Culla Club', captioned 'Bombay Effervesces'.

4to: 1 p. Fourteen lines of text. Aged and worn, with closed tears along the fold lines, but with text clear and complete. He thanks his correspondent for the letter ('It is always a great delight to me to know that people like my work.') and gives details of where the 'little book I published on "Pride of Body" ' can be purchased. Ends with the details of his 'new novel "A Soldier of Life" ': 'I mention it, as you say it is difficult for you to get hold of books and I should like you to read it.'

On a piece of yellow paper (roughly 7.5 x 10 cm), laid down on a light-green page (roughly 14 x 8 cm) torn from an autograph album. Lightly aged and spotted, but good overall. Reads ' "Remember that if you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper. When you are in the wrong you can't afford to lose it" | [signed] J B. Hobbs.' And in a smaller hand, diagonally in the bottom right-hand corner 'Best wishes to Peter Briggs | [signed] JBH'.
