12mo, iv + 8 pp. Stitched. In original blue printed wraps. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged paper, with minor foxing. In original worn blue wraps, with closed tear to the spinal crease. Title leaf followed by printed limitation leaf: 'No. 4a | This Copy is Inscribed to Prof John Tyndall'. On the inside of the back wrap is a manuscript list headed 'Memo from Mailing account Book', numbered 1 ('Mr Carlyle') to 12 ('Rev H. W. Beecher'). Included are 'R W Emerson', 'H W Longfellow', and at 4, 'Prof Tyndall, Huxley, Proctor, & Mr Spencer' (the last three being 4b, 4c and 4d).

4to (25 x 17.5 cm), 16 pages. Stapled. Colour throughout. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. An interesting piece of Kennedy ephemera, using the comic-book medium in a serious manner at the beginning of the 'Pop Art' era. Attractively and professionally drawn, and laid out in panels like a Marvel or DC Comic. Giving a positive account of Kennedy's background and political activities (for example his 'forward looking stand on U.S. domestic issues'). Caption to last panel reads 'On January 20, 1961 Kennedy and Johnson were inaugurated President and Vice President for a four year term.

Internally tight, on lightly-aged paper, with the plates a little foxed. Rebacked and in worn and lightly-stained binding. Tasteful small bookplate, with the single word 'Simpson' in copperplate, an initial 'M.' added in manuscript. Pink ticket on front pastedown: 'GEORGE DAVEY, | Bookseller, Binder, | & STATIONER, | NO. 1 BROAD STREET, | BRISTOL.' An uncommon Chiswick Press item.

Two volumes in one binding. 12mo, vi + 108; iv + 108. Each volume with engraved title (included in pagination) with vignette from Westall, and another plate also carrying an engraving from him. Internally tight and sound, on aged paper, in worn and stained brown-cloth half-binding, decorative endpapers, sprung hinges. Number 43 of 400 copies. Scarce: no copy in the British Library, and the only copy on COPAC at the University of London SOAS.

Book: 8vo: xi + 259 pp. Eighteen plates (with the seventh plate, 'A Death Trap', as frontispiece). Fair copy, on lightly aged and foxed paper. In original green binding, gilt, with wear to hinges, corners and head and tail of spine. With autograph inscription of 'V. R. Balfour-Browne, Oxford. February 1901.' A nice association between two notable individuals in the world of field sports. The letter, addressed to 'Dear B. B.', is 12mo, 2 pp, in bifolium; in good condition; laid down by the blank second leaf to the recto of the book's fly leaf.

8vo, xxiii + 149 pp. Frontispiece drawing of Eugen Weidmann by Gea Augsbourg. On aged paper, in worn red cloth binding. Inscribed on the front free endpaper 'For Lucy & Gilbert with love - | (I only had a topnotch American lawyer, ditto English, ditto international, so they got the law in the preface wrong. Blast!)' A large part of p. xi has been deleted by Jesse, with a slip containing a substitute passage of twenty-five lines has been taped over it. Four lines are deleted from p. viii, with an eight-line typed slip taped over it. Two words are added in autograph by Jesse to pp.

12mo: unpaginated. Pamphlet of eight leaves, on good laid paper, stitched with lilac ribbon. A total of 14 pp, with the body of the text on 12 pp, plus title on front cover and woodcut vignette ('S. JULIANI') on back. Creased and with light staining to front cover, otherwise fair. Eight poems, preceded by a quotation from 'We and the World', and followed by three pages of notes, containing background information about the writing of the poems. Scarce: issued with a programme (not present) for 'Entertainment to be given in New Big School' at Rugby.

Folio, 13 pp. Mimeographed typed document on seven leaves stapled together at head. Some leaves separated. Text clear and complete. On aged high-acidity paper with slight chipping to extremities. Report over first seven pages, followed by two appendixes: 'Minimum Diet for Urban Bantu Family of Husband, Wife and Three Children and Cost thereof in Kroonstad' and 'Occupational and Wage Statistics'. No copy on COPAC or in the British Library.

12mo, 9 pp. Stapled. In original plain green wraps. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper, with rusted staple. Folded once, vertically. Wraps creased and discoloured. Divided into 29 rules and 9 bye-laws. The club is said, in Rule 1, to be 'open to Officers of the Army and Navy and Colonial Services, and Gentlemen residing at or visiting Gibraltar'. Emendations by Gatty in pencil, including, on the front wrap, 'Proof' and 'Rules as altered at the meeting carried!' A few minor emendations in text, and additional rule by Gatty, seven lines in length, on the back wrap.

16mo, 20 pp. Stitched. In original blue printed wraps. Fair, on lightly-aged paper, with the pamphlet folded once. The Club's 25 rules are preceded by a list of the Committee of Management. Ownership inscription of L. Barnes-Lawrence at head of front wrap, but annotated and amended throughout in Gatty's hand. From the residue of Sir Stephen H. Gatty's papers. A scarce piece of Malta ephemera: no copies at the British Library or listed on COPAC (although the latter does carry a record for a 1903 edition).

Two pages, on the versos of a 4to bifolium. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. Concerning the proposed 'establishment of a Club' within the Library, and concluding 'Generally we are of opinion that the above scheme is the best that can be suggested for upholding both institutions - the Library and the Club. The proposed agreement (i) may appear at first sight to entail a loss on the Library, but the loss it would suffer from the establishment of a Club outside would probably be far heavier, [...]'. With four photographs (three captions: 'A Herd of Musk-Oxen', 'An Arctic Switch-Back' and 'Eskimos in their Hunting Kayaks'). Shackleton's article reads as an original not an extract. Begins 'THE Arctic is thought by many to be a dead and sunless world, largely devoid of life.

In original brown cloth wraps, with cover bearing white paper label printed in red and black reading 'HUME | METAL ON LEATHER. | 1863.' Tight, on aged paper, in rebacked wraps. Inscribed on front free endpaper 'To W. W. F. Hume Esquire from his the writer 3rd March 1863. Title-page also in red and black. Note on reverse of title: 'This Paper is printed in the Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, Vol. XIV, for Session 1861-62.

A good association copy. Decorated green boards,illustrated eps, good +. With the bookplates of Edward Laurence Doheny and Carrie Estelle Doheny (front endpapers - not her conventional bookplate), a label "From the Library of Estelle Doheny at 8 Chester Place Los Angeles". Also a small Chrismas card laid down front endpaper with the words "Love to Estelle Doheny Nancy & Howard [Chandler Christy]", and the titlepage is inscribed by the illustrator "To [Mrs] Doheny. | To a friend - from a friend. Christmas 1923. Howard Chandler Christy".

Pamphlet, [16]pp., 8vo, fold marks, mainly good condition. The code suggests an imprint of 5000 (ffot of page 5,000. 2/19, but there is no copy recorded on COPAC or WorldCat. Topics include; How the possession of the vote benefits women; How to make right use of the vote; What women voters should keep in view; Problems in which women's help is specially need (sub-section Government sub-divided into Local; Parliamentary; Education; Housing; Health; Morality; The Drink Question; Industry).

8vo, 11 + [i] pp. Disbound. Good, on lightly-aged and worn paper. Signed in type at end (p.11) 'WOODVILLE WOODMAN. | Stoneclough, near Manchester, | March 5th, 1861.' The final page is headed 'PUBLIC NOTICE.', and advertises services and a 'Reading & Tract Society' at Northampton New Church, Corn Exchange Buildings, ending 'The Library comprises the works of Swedenborg, and general New Church Literature. A passionate retort, in defence of Swedenborgianism, to the Brindley's Methodist interpretation of 'Swedenborg's doctrine of marriage', as set out in a lecture. 'The insinuation of Dr.

Stitched and in original printed wraps. Text clear and complete. Several copies of varying condition. Usually Fair: lightly-aged and creased. Scarce: other than electronic reproductions, COPAC only lists copies of this second edition at the Bodleian and British Library.

Broadsheet bifolium, 4 pp. Text clear and complete. On lightly-aged paper, worn along fold lines. Poetry collection, containing twenty-eight poems by writers including 'Mazizi Kunene (In Exile, London, 1960)' and Hugh MacDiarmid, whose two poems have the footnote 'We are especially pleased to print these two new poems by Hugh McDiarmid, contributed despite the painful after effects of his recent car smash. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.' Masthead endorsement by Sean O'Casey: 'I am with you in all efforts to create perfect race equality the world over.

8vo, 16 pp Disbound. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper, with the final page a little discoloured. Ownership inscriptions of 'Charles Hall Hemphill' and 'James | May 1837'. A significant work: a milestone in the history of copyright law. According to the eleventh edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, this speech introducing Talfourd's Copyright Bill 'was considered the most telling made in the House during that session'. No copy listed on COPAC, and WorldCat lists three copies (all foreign).

Offprint, "Transactions of the American Philosophical Society", vol.iv, New Series, brown paper wraps, 48pp., 4to, two one-word corrections in Hodgson's hand, some foxing, marginal chipping of page edges, fair. INSCRIBED "To President Adams | With the hommage | of W B Hodgson". Note: Hodgson served in the State Department through the influence of Henry Clay who, when secretary of state in Adams's administration, "assigned Hodgson to the Barbary States . . ."
