An attractive and unusual item, and extremely scarce: no copies recorded on either OCLC WorldCat or COPAC. Engraved print in shape 11 cm diameter circle, carrying text and numeration, attached to printed 8vo leaf and superimposed on matching circular print with months and further numeration, to make a calculation tool. At head of page, beneath title and above wheel: 'To find the SUNDAYS that depend on EASTER day.

1p., 8vo. In good condition, lightly-aged and worn. Addressed to 'My dearest Bellows'. He has received the pamphlet at the Hotel Bristol, and 'earnestly' believes that 'it will make the right impression upon the powerful of the world'. His party starts the following week for Russia, '& I will take in hands [sic] our plans of delivery as soon as I get on the spot'. He ends with a pious sentiment. Bellows paid two visits to Russia, and counted Tolstoy among his friends.

10pp., 4to. On five leaves pinned together. In good condition, on aged laid paper with Britannia watermark. Folded into the customary packet, and docketted 'Valuation of Corbrid. He explains that he has 'not written since my Vol in 1920 any Book on Le Blond except the one just published of which I enclose the Prospectus & do not contemplate any other'. He points out the differences between the two volumes and ends with an offer of help.

2pp., 4to. Carbon. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Begins: 'The third of a series of lectures arranged by the Norwich Printers' Joint Industrial Council was held at the Norwich Central Public Library on March 19, when the City Librarian (Mr. Geo A. Stephen, the author of "Commercial Bookbinding" and other works) gave a lecture on "The Making of a Modern Book". The lecture was illustrated by about a hundred lantern slides and exhibits. [...] Mr. F.S.

Presumably First Edition. Pp.[1] Title-45[3], final 3pp., list of books printed for J. Debrett, disbound, foxed, minor damage and staining, fair condition. It appears to be an investigation of the possibly seditious activities of The Society for Constitutional Information and The London Corresponding Society (and related). Note: A. "The Society for Constitutional Information was a British activist group founded in 1780 by Major John Cartwright, to promote parliamentary reform. The Society flourished until 1783, but thereafter made little headway.

1p., 4to. On a leaf removed from an autograph album, under the date 'MAY 1', and within a red and green decorative border. The poem consists of sixteen lines in four stanzas, the first stanza reading: 'When the time comes for me to die, | To morrow - or some other day - | If God should bid me make reply: | "What wilt thou?" - I shall say,'. (In the published version 'What wilt thou?' reads 'What woud'st thou?') On the reverse of the leaf is a text and signature by an "Ethel Mengens".

6pp., 8vo, followed by one lithographic plate by Waterlow & Sons. Stitched. In blue printed wraps. Aged and creased, with minor staining; in worn wraps,and with some underlining in ink on second page.

These proof sheets to the fourth and last volume (1852) of Hanna's 'Memoirs of the Life and Writings of Thomas Chalmers', derive from the Chalmers family through Mrs Anne Chalmers Bennet Clark, and are marked in manuscript at the head of the first page 'This Chapter has not [last word underlined] been sent out.' 24pp., 8vo. Three unbound signatures, paginated 439-462. In fair condition, aged and worn.

3pp., 4to. Bifolium. 62 lines of text. In good condition, lightly-aged, with short unobtrusive closed tears along crease lines and '(Grace Pratt)' in a later hand at head of first page. On the reverse of the second leaf is the address, with remains of red wax seal: 'Mrs. Chalmers. | Inverleith Row - | Edinburgh.' Docketted: 'G. P. Chalmers | 1838'. Closes 'Yr. ever affectionate daughter | Grace Chalmers'.

201pp., 8vo. Quarter-bound with oat cloth spine with printed paper label, and grey paper boards. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn binding. Autograph signature on front free endpaper of 'Anne C.

2pp., 12mo. On leaf with mourning border. In good condition, lightly-aged, with neat repair to a short closed tear. He is returning a memorandum, 'which is quite correct & may be acted on', and has made a payment of £380 to his account with Drummonds Bank.

3pp., 4to. Bifolium. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, with slight damage to a corner of the second leaf. Pencil note in another hand at foot of last page. Hamilton (1781-1876), Oriental Secretary to the British Embassy at Constantinople, published 'Antar: A Bedoueen Romance' with the London publisher John Murray in 1819. The present letter therefore relates to a pre-publicity copy of the book, which Wrighte has read with 'great pleasure'. Readers are, he considers, 'much obliged to Mr. Terrick Hamilton for presenting it to the Public in such an elegant English dress'.

40pp., 8vo. In fair condition, aged and worn, no wraps, disbound. On pp.36-40: 'Letter to the Editor of The Times, from Mrs. Fawcett', signed at end 'Millicent Garrett Fawcett. | June 7.'

15pp., 8vo. In good condition, lightly-aged, no wraps, disbound. Among the speeches reported are ones by Lucy Wilson (Leeds), S. J. Capper, Dr Ewing Whittle, Thomas Snape (Liverpool), Dr Nevins, Josephine Butler. No copy traced, either on COPAC or on OCLC WorldCat.

Three pages (expansive hand), 12mo, fold mark, good condition. "Ihave decided on offering you our Drawing Mastership. | The salary will be half a guninea for every Boy in the School not on the Foundation up to a maximum of 160 guineas. | The boys have steadily exceeded 320, not on the Foundation, for years. But [...] is our rule of payment in all cases. | I should be glad if you could come in about a month."

1p., 12mo. On bifolium, with the verso of the second leaf addressed to 'J. T. Smith esqr.' In fair condition, on aged and worn paper.

1p., 12mo. In fair condition, on aged paper, with light offsetting from another letter. Written in a difficult hand. Concerns 'the Club meeting' at 'Macdougall's Hall'. The recipient is addressed as 'My dear Capt Bond', and at the foot of the letter as 'Capt <?> Bond | &c. &c.'

The letter and draft each on one side of the same piece of 8vo paper. In good condition, aged and worn, with a short closed tear along one fold line.

2pp., 8vo. On bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'Thos. Amyot Esq | 13. James St. | Pimlico', with two postmarks and a good impression of Dibdin's red wax monogram seal. He is 'solicitious' to know Amyot's movements. 'My request is, "Fly not yet." The later you go, the better for me.' He gives the dates on which he means to be in Norwich, 'to spend a day at Blickling - having written word to Churchill to that effect - to get instituted, inducted, & read myself in by the following Sunday - ye 17th.

Apart from one contribution dating from 1800, three from the 1850s and two from the 1860s, all contributions date from between 1820 and 1847. 237pp., 4to, with eight items loosely inserted (including four coloured botanical drawings on card) and three-page partial index of contributors. In contemporary black leather binding, with embossed pattern and gilt border on front board, marbled endpapers, and all edges gilt. In good condition, lightly aged and worn, in rebacked binding, worn at spine, with new label.

Dibdin's letter: 1p., 12mo. On bifolium, with the Signed Autograph Copy of Chapple's reply (also 1p., 12mo) on the reverse of the same leaf. Reverse of second leaf addressed to 'C. Chapple Esq', with a nineteenth-century shelfmark at the foot of the page: 'C.68.Coll.CR.' In fair condtion, on aged paper.

On one side of a small skin (c.35 x 43 cm). In fair condition: somewhat worn and aged. Laid out in the usual fashion, with embossed tax stamp in margin. Signed on gutter 'Meath' and 'Arth; Thomas', with the signatories two seals in red wax (both cracked and with some loss). In English. Signatures of the two witnesses on reverse: 'Nichs. Thompson' and 'Joh Morrisson'. Scan on application.

Both items in fair condition, on lightly-aged paper. ONE: 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. The letter begins: 'Dear Mr Lane, | Conscientious research in Titmarshian activities seems to point to the fact that you owe to the club the sum of 22/- for two dinners in October 1907.' He continues on this theme for a while, before turning to Reynolds: 'I am very glad to hear that you are going to bring out the Holy Mountain & Poor Mans House by Reynolds. As partly responsible for the suggestion of the Mountain & the location at Acton, I take some interest in the book & also in its author.?>

TWO: ALS. 23 Hertford Street, London, on cancelled letterhead of the Forum Club, 6 Grosvenor Place, Hyde Park Corner; 23 Aug. [1921 or 1922]. A sensitive letter of condolence on one of SL's miscarriages, signed 'Your devoted Stella'. Docketed by Lynd's daughter Maire Gaister: 'Probably in 1921 or 1922 after a still-born baby. S. L.
