2pp., on 16mo, bifoliate card. In good condition, lightly-aged. One panel advertises 'a series of bible lectures to be delivered (God willing) by the Ecclesia in Wellington': 'SEATS FREE. NO COLLECTION. BRING BIBLES FOR REFERENCE.' The text explains that 'Palestine is very much in the public eye at this time as men watch the developments in the Land concerning which the Bible says so much: yet few realise that current events there are fulfilment of Bible prophecy, and that the future of the Land is also foretold in no uncertain way.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. 'I've the vividest memory of starting at Bouverie St. 38 years ago, in 1911, & of the thrill of speaking to him (on the top corridor). The Abbey Co. was just then at the Court, so our enthusiasm about it & its works made two very shy people articulate! | Since then, how much real pleasure I've owed to him!! The News Chronicle will never quite seem the same again.'

I am sending you a spare set of proofs of the new book. The publishers, having made me add thousands of words to it, now tell me that it is a bit too long'. The second part of the letter refers to a visit by 'Lennox [i.e. Lennox Robinson] and his wife [...] He has just been doing June in Belfast, he has Aodh de Blacam's translation, A Saint in a Hurry!

2pp., 8vo. On aged paper. He expresses himself with sincere emotion: 'O Sylvia - I have just read the news that your Robert has died - my Robert, too, in a far, far lesser, but still real, sense. […] Think how few women have loved, & been loved, by a man like him. […] I, too, am not far off my end. […] I have never being [sic] in Robert's company - even for a few minutes together - without feeling that he was one of the most loveable of men. […] I am writing at the printers, waiting for "proofs." - Robert would smile at a situation so characteristic of both our lives.

2pp., 8vo. In fair conditon, on lightly aged paper. 'For some reason or other which I cannot understand a number of people have got into the literary world who have no literary ability or genuine interest in writing [...] Recently I gave a poem to a very young literary editor as a result of requests from him extending over a year. The poem had taken me months of hard work and I sent it with some hesitation as the youngster works in the Eliot interest. I got it back with a very smart and very rude note.

Both items in good condition, lightly aged, and both laid out in the customary fashion, with tax stamps and embossments. ONE: On three vellum skins. Endorsed, with signatures of various Company officials, on reverse of third skin: 'The Artizans Labourers and General Dwellings Company Limited to The Mutual Life Assurance Society | Mortgage for securing £35000 and Interest'. She thanks Lynd for 'one of the nicest novel articles we have had in Gerald's absence', and asks her to 'be an angel, and do something else for Viola, who is vanishing tomorrow for four or five weeks', in reviewing 'the Somerset Maugham book you wanted [...] I really think he is worth a long article to himself - 1500 words, and, if you care to, you can put in a word for Heinemann's edition of the Collected Works, which we send alongside. Mr.

On both sides of an 8.5 x 11 cm card. The item has been soaked in order to remove it from backing, and this has resulted in fading of the ink and slight ruckling. She explains that she would have been pleased to accept the recipient's offer 'under usual circumstances', but that 'firms are volunteering to let me have their articles at wholesale prices', so she is 'bound in the interest of Boys and Girls to accept their more favorable terms'.?>

16pp., 8vo. Complete publication, unstapled and unbound. Unopened (i.e. with the pages unseparated). On the usual high-acidity newspaper stock, brittle and aged, with chipping to outer margins. The first page carries a poem title 'Ireland, 1914', by Padraic Colum. Other contributors include Joseph Plunkett and Professor T. M. ('Tom') Kettle. The final page carries an article by M. J. Judge titled 'A Nation's Destiny. Arms Are The Arbiters', and an illustrated piece on 'First Aid'. The newspaper was published between 1914 and 1916.

The first and last entries read: '5/76 Ship, about 2,000 tons, register, built of steel, 1886, 100 A1, will carry about 3,500 D.W. on 22 1/2 ft. Although the weather is fine he has a bad cold, and his 'people' will not let him leave the house: 'I regret this very much for I was anxious to testify my regard for Leigh Hunt's memory & it wd have gratified me to meet Mr. S. C. Hall & yourself'. He is sending a 'note for Durham', and wishes to express his 'entire approbation of your proceedings'.

Printed in gold on one side of a piece of thin card. In very good condition. The message reads: 'May Christmas and the New Year bring | Your Excellency Happiness and Prosperity | and | your Country Honour and Victory. | GENERAL SIR BABER SHUM SHERE JUNG, | Bahadoor Rana, | Nepalese Army. | Delhi, 1916.'

70pp., 8vo, in 'Campbell's Albany Diary and Almanac for 1900' (Glasgow: Duncan Campbell & Son), 'Printed 2nd September, 1900. Ownership inscription on front free endpaper: 'L. K. Smith | The Royal Scots | 2nd. Bn. Mounted Infantry | 2nd. Cavalry Brigade'. Internally in fair condition, on aged and worn paper, in heavily worn and stained red cloth binding. Entries dating from 1 October 1899 to 26 May 1900. An interesting first-hand account, conveying a vivid sense of immediacy, from an officer who saw a deal of action and distinguished himself during the campaign.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, creased and lightly-aged. The letter begins: 'My dear Lord Errington, | You know the difficulties I had to run through because of my loss of money. The rest of my present fortune I am not allowed to withdraw without, for one sum, a years notice, the other, 18 months, the whole sum being 5 or £6,000.' He proceeds explains the particulars of his proposal to 'deposite [sic] with A. B. [i.e. Alexander Baring] two bills of exhcange each of half the sum above mentioned'.

2pp., 4to. Bifolium. Written out in manuscript on lithographed letterhead headed 'Public Order Memorial'. Reads: 'Resolved | That after mature Consideration of the Circumstances which have occurred since the objects of the Committee were first promulgated, it is expedient that no further steps be taken in furtherance of the objects proposed, and that the Contributions already received of which Her Majesty and Members of the Royal Family have subscribed One Thousand Pounds be returned to the subscribers, the expenses incurred having been discharged by the Committee'.

On three skins, with the customary tax stamps and ribbon. In fair condition, with some wear along fold lines of the first skin.

2pp., folio. Bifolium. In small type. Containing two copies of a printed circular by McIlquham, on Cheltenham Rural District Council letterhead, dated 14 September 1906. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. The memorandum is divided into five sections, and begins by putting the Council's position that 'Motor Cars travelling at high speed in dry weather along the unwatered roads of country districts occasion an intolerable dust nuisance to other users of the highway, and seriously prejudice the comfort and even the health of the inhabitants of road-side dwellings'.

A powerful and evocative artefact, and a decided museum piece, mainly centring on the year 1980 and 1981, significant years in the movement's history, with a quarter of a million people marched through central London in support of CND in 1981. The collection includes a copy of the 1980 government pamphlet 'Protect and Survive', and E. P. Thompson's celebrated riposte of the same year, 'Protest and Survive'. The collection is in fair condition, with signs of age and wear which enhance rather than detract from its impact.

Two stapled pamphlets, uniform in layout, each with the ownership signature of M. Rooff at head of title. Day 13: [2] + 35pp., paginated 279-313, folio. Day 27: [2] + 25 pp., paginated 591-616. Substantially Howard League views, and mainly concerned with 'The Experience of Abolition in other Countries'. Both in fair condition, aged and worn, and each with particular wear to the title leaf.
