Dimensions of card: roughly 12 x 18 cm. Dimensions of image: 10 x 14 cm. Printed on shiny paper. Aged, spotted and worn. 'Meisenbach' in bottom right-hand corner of image. Caption above the image: 'Principal Writers of "The Clarion," the foremost advocate of evolutionary Socialism in England.' Beneath the image: 'E. F. Fay (THE BOUNDER). A.M. Thompson (DANGLE). Robert Blatchford (Nunquam). M. Blatchford (MONT BLANC).' Undated, but certainly dating from between 1891, when the Clarion was founded, and 1896, when Fay died.

1p., 8vo. In fair condition, on aged grey paper, laid down on paper mount, and slighty discoloured by glue used. He apologises for being unable to provide him with the desired order, 'but on any particular day you may require one I shall be glad to assist you as far as I can'. He suggests that they speak 'after lecture'. In a contemporary hand, written at foot of mount: 'Professor Robert Bentley F.L.S. (Professor of Botany) Author | born 1821.'

10pp., 4to. On five leaves pinned together. In good condition, on aged laid paper with Britannia watermark. Folded into the customary packet, and docketted 'Valuation of Corbrid. Houses & Gardens &c.' Arranged in ten columns: No. of Claim; Proprietors Names; Situation & Tennants Names; What the Building consists [Premises consist] of; Particular Content of Land [Gardens &c]; Total Content of Land; Particular rent of Houses & Land; Yearly rent of Houses & Land; Houses & Land proportioned; Total Claim.

Printed on one side of a 37.5 x 28 cm piece of aged newsprint. A frail historical survival, archivally preserved, but with slight later loss leaving some holes in the leaf, affecting some of the text. Small oval stamp with unreadable text in purple ink on reverse. In four columns, with first item Panzera's 'General Orders', dated 16 December 1899, with sections headed 'Good Service by Snipers', 'Visiting Justice', 'Board of Officers', 'Settlement of Forage Accounts' and 'Packing Cases for Local Defence'.

[3] + 306pp., 12m. In original printed grey cloth. In fair condition, on aged paper, in worn and damp-stained binding. Small ownership signature of 'Colonel Hag. R.A.' at head of title page, and stamp on front pastedown of booksellers 'Thacker & Co. Ld., Bombay.' Uncommon: only four copies recorded on COPAC. Forty essays published between 16 February and 5 December 1860. The main body (pp.1-248) consists of 33 essays of political gossip, under the same title as the book: 'Some Serious Reflections'. Essays 34 to 40 follow, separately listed in the 'Contents': 'The Teapot Series.

16mo. 1p. In fair condition, with slight traces of glue from mount. He has received Dyer's 'parcel p[er] Coach', and informs him that his party is 'expected at Mr. Fry's' on the following day. He is returning with the letter 'all the Books you first forwarded for Mrs Jacksons inspection'.

Four pages, pp.2[2], folio, unbound as issued, two leaves of bifolium separated, sl. chipping and sunning of edges, fold mark, text clear and complete. It includes: P.1 & 2 a history of the appeal (committee meetings etc), and its objectives, concluding "David Masson | Chairman | 27th May 1897."; P.[3] The Committee (Earl of Rosebery, J.M. Barie, Conan Doyle, Henry James, Joseph Bell, Rider Haggard, Thomas Hardy, Edmind Gosse, Rudyard Kipling, Leslie Stephen, etc etc.; p.[4] "First Subscription List" (much the same as Committee.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly-aged. He begins by thanking him for his reminder: 'Yes I should like A<?>'s laying up policy renewal - we should not set out till July'. He reports that they have 'found winter quarters' with 'fresh air & quiet', but not 'near some port for steam coaches &c.' They expect to stay there 'till Parliament calls us to London. | Let me know what I can do to help your Bill for the Autumn'.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Good, on lightly aged and worn paper. Addressing the recipient as 'Sir', he thanks him for his 'many very valuable suggestions', but fears that 'there seems some danger that a Vigilance Committee such as you describe, wd be regarded as & wd. be very likely to become, a Caucus - the very thing we protest against so strongly'. In addition, it would 'embitter party rivalry in the Union & would greatly increase the difficulty of destroying all cliques & getting the best men as officers of the Union no matter to what section of what party they may belong'.

1p., 4to. On bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged and smudged paper. Engraved copperplate certificate. Signed 'Francis Campbell Bayard' and 'Hugh Robert Mill'.

1p., small 4to. In fair condition, on aged paper, with spike hole (not affecting text). Listing seventeen newspapers, from 'The Times' to 'Drakard's paper', with note running up the right-hand margin: 'The Papers Mr Owens Pamphlet is to go'. Addressed on reverse to 'Robert Owen, Esqr.' From the archives of Cadell & Davies, publishers in 1813 of Owen's 'New View of Society'.

The collection of sixteen items is in good overall condition, on aged and worn paper. Includes: two lists of 'Messrs. Methuen's Sixpenny Books', one of them dated to 1908; lists for 1912, 1915, 1924 (two), 1934 (two: novels and 'new books'), 1939 (two: one in red of novels, and the other in blue of non-fiction). Also advertisements for: 'The Illustrated Pocket Library of Plain and Coloured Books'; 'The Heather Moon' by C. N. and A. M.

34pp., 8vo. Drophead title. In good condition, lightly-aged, no wraps, disbound. Includes a five-page speech by John Stuart Mill (pp.4-9), and others by Mrs Taylor, Professor Cairnes, Mrs Grote, Sir Robert Anstruther, Mrs Fawcett, Lord Amberley, Miss Helen Taylor, Auberon Herbert, Jacob Bright, Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, Miss Hare, Professor Hunter, Sir Wilfred Lawson. Four copies on COPAC, and two (other than surrogates) on OCLC WordCat. No other copy currently on the market.

Printed on one side of a piece of 36 x 26 cm wove paper. Aged and lightly creased, with short closed tears at edges, along central fold line. The seventeen line facsimile is under an ornate heading. Scarce: the only copy on OCLC WorldCat and COPAC at the British Library.

Kerr ('Commanding "The Buffs," Dover'); R. H. Knox ('the Financial Secretary'); H. W. Just, Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for the Colonies. Note at end: 'MEMO.

On 4 x 14.5 cm slip of paper. In fair condition, placed in a windowpane frame, on leaf removed from album. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in creased mount. Reads: 'Augst. 23: 1783 Recd. of Mr Boydell Twelve Pound's [sic] on Account | Robt. Dunkarton | £12: 0: 0'. On the reverse is a receipt signed by a 'Jno Harley'. Both items in fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Both 1p., 4to, and both signed 'Robert Graham & Co.' ONE (30 March 1829): Docketed on reverse: 'Letter from Sir R Graham respg Hunts Bill'. They have already informed him that his 'draft on Hunt of £20 was dishonoured & noted for nonpayment', and now 'have now to intimate that your draft on Foreman for the same amount has met the same fate'. Consequently they request a remittance. TWO (28 April 1829): They are 'rather surprised' that they have received no reply to their letter of 14 April.

On one side of a small skin of vellum (circa 28 x 29 cm). In fair condition, aged and worn. In English, with signed Latin note on reverse by a notary public. Boundaries given. Scan on application.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Hanrott writes that he has received the recipient's letter on his 'return to Town', and that he will be pleased to subscribe 'to the work mentioned in the Prospectus you inclosed to me, & should wish to have a large Paper Copy'. He hopes that 'it may meet with that liberal encouragement, which it's [sic] importance & usefullness [sic] deserves'. He concludes in the hope that 'it is to be conducted under your auspices'.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. He thanks her 'for the Daily News review. Such touching appreciation, and from you, repays us for the anxiety attending the publication of the Memoir [...] This part of Sussex seems very forsaken since you & your husband left it. If you are ever near, what a pleasure a call from you would be - or a visit, if your freedom allowed it.

The letters total 10pp., 12mo and 8vo. The three items in good condition, lightly-aged. ONE: ALS. The Taby Cat, West Grinstead; 17 Jan. [1918]. First 2pp only. In envelope postmarked 18 Jan. 1918. TWO: ALS. 23 Hertford Street, London, on cancelled letterhead of the Forum Club, 6 Grosvenor Place, Hyde Park Corner; 23 Aug. [1921 or 1922]. A sensitive letter of condolence on one of SL's miscarriages, signed 'Your devoted Stella'. Docketed by Lynd's daughter Maire Gaister: 'Probably in 1921 or 1922 after a still-born baby. S. L.

The three items in good condition, lightly-aged. The two letters signed 'Jack Squire' and the note 'J C S'. Totalling 7pp., in 12mo and 4to. ONE: ALS. On letterhead of the New Statesman; 'Thursday | dead hour of night', undated, but docketed 20 July 1915. An interesting letter, in the light of the fact that Lynd held Squire largely to blame for her husband's descent into alchoholism. He begins 'Dear Mrs Lynd, If I loathed you, as, on the whole, I do not, I should make a little poem e.g. | There was an M.S.

The three items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Totalling 8pp., in 8vo and 12mo. ONE: TLS. Forge Wood, Pound Hill, Sussex; 22 May 1927. Written on his return from America. 'Save for old Nevvy [H. M. Nevinson], not a soul acknowledged any of the various amusing or informative scraps that I sent over during my arduous journeyings. […] I crossed the tracks of Philip G., Frank Swinnerton, Francis Brett-Young, Hugh Walpole, and various others. Tales mostly fit only for private hearing were heard in the wake of several of them.

Lutoslawski's letter is in fair condition, lightly-aged with vertical crease. Addressed to Lynd at 5 Keat's Grove, Highgate, from Poland, with Polish stamp and postmark. He writes that he has 'exceedingly enjoyed [her novels] the Gold Finches and the Mulberry Bush', and would like her 'opinion and experience on the following inquiry', i.e. a printed circular regarding his book 'Preexistence and Reincarnation', which attempts to rove that 'each of us has lived in human shape many times and that we reap now what we have sown ages ago'.

1p., 8vo. In good condition, lightly aged and folded twice. The letter begins: 'Dear Sir | For my book - "Poems with Fables in Prose" (2 vols. Constable) I confess I particularly aspire to the honour of a review in the Daily News. He gives a list of themes which the volumes contain, 'Inter alia', including 'new philosophical iteas'. In black pencil at the head of the page (probably by Gardiner) is 'Mr Lynd', i.e. a direction for the letter to be forwarded to columnist Robert Lynd.

1p., 8vo. In fair condition, aged and creased. He is returning the 'drafts of Katherine Tynan. I have taken some liberties with the text in the matter of arrangement, but I hope there is nothing omitted which is of essential importance.' He is including 'a list of small questions', most of which he imagines 'Miss Pamela Hinkson could answer, and he offers to write to her himself.

2pp. 8vo. In good condition, lightly-aged. Making arrangements for a visit by Lynd's daughter Maire, 'with Thomas', the following week. 'Please let Miss Maire stay as long as possible as it is a long journey - I asked Thomas if they could not stay over the 19th when Vera Moore & Antonia Butler will be playing for me in Alnwick but I am afraid he said Term began before then but anyhow I hope they will stay as long as they possible can & get some music as I believe Vera Moore comes here about the 12th -'.

2pp., 4to. Bifolium. In fair condition, aged and worn. Contract, signed on Tree's behalf by Henry Dana. A printed form, completed in a second hand, headed 'HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE', and dated 14 March 1908. Signed by Dana: 'pp H Beerbohm Tree | Henry Dana'. Engaging 'Miss Sylvia Dryhurst' for 'The run of "The Merchant of Venice", at the salary of one guinea per week of six performances. 'This engagement is terminable by two weeks' notice on either side'. Not signed by SL. The second page carries the fifteen 'Rules and Regulations' of 'His Majesty's Theatre. | Proprietor and Manager - Mr. TREE.'
