The First page is headed, in fancy type, 'ROYAL MEDICAL BENEVOLENT COLLEGE. | EPSOM.', beneath which is an engraving of the College. The prospectus is presented in the form of a letter, and is dated 'Febry. 1859' and signed (as a 'faithful fellow-laborer') by Propert in light-blue ink.

Printed on one side of a piece of 76 x 55 cm paper. In good condition, lightly-aged. At head of document the words 'Official Notice' and the royal crest. Folded into a 22 x 9.5 cm packet, docketted on reverse 'Statutory Notice | and | Workshop and Factory Acts'. The document begins with 'Notices. | To be filled up and signed by the Occupier.', followed by the 'Abstract', in two columns of small type, under the sub-headings 'Sanitation", 'Accidents', 'Employment and Meal Hours', 'Holidays', 'Outworkers', 'Piece Work.

3pp., 16mo. Bifolium. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He is posting a watch, which he describes as his 'small offering to Michael'. 'Please tell your husband that my wife is honestly much pleased with the excellent drawing of my "honest phiz", as Calverley calls it, though from her intimate knowledge of the original she thinks certain points open to criticism.' He continues in the same vein on the same topic for a page.

In an apparent attempt to drum up business, Skelton writes:: 'In consequence of your suggestion I presume to request the favor of you to receive a few of my engraved Portraits, to present to the Noblemen & Gentlemen, Members of the Athenaeum Club, and shall be gratified if the enclosed may prove acceptable.'

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Good, on lightly-aged paper, with minor traces of mount to the corners of the blank reverse of the second leaf. The letter begins: 'Dear Gilbert | Thomas told me yesterday - at your gallery - that he had heard you had an attack of rheumatic fever'. He hopes that this is not true, as it is 'a most painful complaint', adding: 'I beg that you will give me a line as soon as you feel well, which we al must [hope] will be very soon'.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Scriven begins: 'I am afraid you will have thought I had forgotten to send the plate of Norfolk: the truth is, I decided on doing a few touches to that hand noticed by you & Mr Lackington; and although it was but a very little, I did not like to trust its going without first seeing a proof, as we can never be quite sure, on at all touching the copper, how it may come afterwards.' He ends by sending his 'best respects to Mr Lackington and the rest of your Gentlemen'.

The eight images are arranged in four pairs, each on the central pages of an 8vo bifolium. Dimensions of page: 24.5 x 16cm. Dimensions of image: 9 x 14cm. In fair condition, on lightly-aged and creased paper. Irving is shown in five roles, including Lear, Shylock, and Becket. Also present are two portraits of Irving out of character, and a picture of the exterior of a dilapidated building. Presumably intended for an early twentieth-century biography.

Of the fifteen items in this collection thirteen are in very good condition, lightly-aged, the two others, both photographs, are in fair condition, creased and aged. The typescript is 12pp., foolscap 8vo, on eleven leaves, pinned together in one corner.

Colonel Lethbridge commanded the 1st Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and was mentioned in despatches twice, and decorated several times, during service in the Great War. The ten 12mo letters are in good condition, lightly-aged, while the four 4to letters are aged and worn, with chipping to extremities.

Addressed on reverse of second leaf, with broken red wax seal, Penny Red stamp and postmarks, to: 'Revd. Dr. Wiseman, | St. Mary's College | Oscott | Nr. Birmingham'. 22 lines of text, closely and neatly written. Daly begins: 'I am sorry to trouble you by laying before you the Letters [not present] of a man of the name of Thomas Male - Bookseller & Bookbinder residing at St. Mary's, who has by representing himself as patronized by you got Credit from me to the Amount of £11 . 9 .

In his history of the school Christopher Tyerman points out that Laborde came to Harrow in 1919 after Colonial Service employment as a Head Master in Fiji.

On a cut-down piece of 4 x 15 cm paper. Laid down on part of leaf from album. In fair condition, on aged paper. Reads 'Mr Townley. | with Mr Brand Hollis | compliments'.

6pp., foolscap 8vo. On two bifoliums attached with metal clasp. In very good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Docketed 'Dunbar Yd | Inventory' and headed 'The Dunball Steam Pottery Tile & Brick Company. | List [...]'. The inventory gives a clear impression of the extensive nature of the business.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition. In envelope addressed to 'Laurence W. Hodson | Compton Hall | near Wolverhampton'. The letter begins: 'I beg that when you are in London you will let me see you. I have a little story to tell you about the beautiful little unfinished ('Psyche') picture of Sir Edwards [i.e. Burne-Jones] that you possess. Perhaps when you have heard it you will think more kindly of my wish to buy it from you - Please let me call on you - I will use no wiles!

Addressed on reverse of second leaf 'To Mr: Pennant | Downing in Flintshire', with two postmarks, and carrying a fair impression of his seal, cracked but intact. The letter reads: 'Sr | The portrait of ye Admirable Crichton is very near finished - I shall send you a proof in a few Days - Shall be oblig'd to you - for what writing you propose under the Head - that I may get it done in theh neatest manner'.

2pp., 12mo. 25 lines of text. On aged and worn paper with slight loss at head (not affecting text). The letter begins: 'My dear Sir Redvers | I am ashamed to write to you about a personal matter at such a time, but this is, I think, a very strong claim. | George Peel, son of Lord Peel, in the Oxfordshire Yeomanry, has gone out to South Africa at his own expense, & wishes to be attached to any expedition which is sent to relieve Kimberley, because his sister is there.
