2pp., 12mo. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. He is sending the copy of P. C. Wren's 'Beau Geste' (published by the publishers of the 'Quarterly Review', John Murray Ltd, in 1926), and assures Shorter that he must not 'pay for this further review-copy'. He will be happy to give Shorter's message to the photographers Greenhough & Co., 'indeed, they shall see your letter, or at least the personal part of it'. He is sorry that Shorter's 'process of getting well is not to be more rapid', and asks to be informed when he can pay a visit.

A cultured man (an authority on numismatics), Fewster worked for the family firm of Thomas Fewster of Hull, paint, colour and varnish manufacturers. The present item is an attractive example of his professional interest in the developments in late nineteenth-century design (another is his collection of the designs of Christopher Dresser, in two albums, is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London). It is a small 4to (21 x 17 cm) album of green cloth, with embossed design of birds and foliage around the words 'Scrap Album' on front cover, and printed illustrated title by Marcus Ward & Co.

Both items 12mo. The first ('A Protest'), [2] + 17 + [1]pp.; the second ('Universities' Test Act') 12pp. The two items bound together in contemporary grey cloth binding, with 'Compulsory Chapel' stamped in gilt on front board. Attributed to C. H. Harrison in a modern hand in pencil on front free endpaper. Both items in very good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn and spotted binding. The first item (which prints the Universities' Test Act on pp.15-17) with minor manuscript emendation on first page of text. Both items featured in A. T.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, on aged paper. With envelope addressed by Woodin to 'W. C. M. Kent Esqr | Sun Office', on which is written 'Your Card of course will admit any Friends'. The letter begins: 'My very dear Sir, | I have taken the Salle Robin and called it The Myriographic Hall, now I intend inviting the gentlemen of the Press on Thursday Evening March 3rd.

The certificate is 1p., 4to, on the recto of the first leaf of a bifolium. It reads: 'I hereby Certify that on the twenty-first day of April, One Thousand Eight hundred & sixty five, Walter Stevenson Davidson of No. 16 St. James's Street, Esquire, is a registered Proprietor in the Books of the Peel River Land & Mineral Company Limited of Sixty five thousand pounds (£65,000) Consolidated Stock. | C. The two letters and flier are in good condition, on lightly-aged paper; the cutting is on aged newsprint, separated into two parts along a crease line. Letter One (17 December 1896): 2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. He informs the recipient that, as the review list for the book is closed, its publishers Wightman & Co have sent on the reviewer's letter to Musgrave. 'We are following this course as much interest exists between the North Country & West Africa.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. A frail survival, on aged and worn paper. The first page carries the 'Message', headed with the crest of the Colonial Office, and signed in type 'G. H. HALL.': 'Welcome home. You have suffered a long and bitter ordeal at the hands of a barbarous enemy. | You have never been out of our thoughts and we now know, as we had always expected, that you have borne the ordeal with the spirit of your race. | That experience is now past and freedom is yours again.

1p., 12mo. Air mail letter on blue paper, addressed to Arthur Bourne, Academic Press Inc. (London) Ltd, 24-28 Oval Road, London, NW1 7DX, England. In good condition, lightly aged and creased. Clarke begins by thanking Bourne for his letter, and informing him that he has 'sent a card of thank [sic] to Dr. Allan Cottey'. 'I am now happily retired with the completion of my last and best novel "The Fountains of Paradise" (Playboy January and February - HBJ; Gollancz, January). I expect to be back in England in August to attend the World S. F.

2pp., 4to. In fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. The first page consists of a typescript in two columns, with names scored through and a few added in pencil. The second page has a few typewritten names, together with dozens added in pencil, clearly at different times. From 1919 the London Mercury's original editor J. C. Squire promoted the traditional verse of the Georgian Poets and their prose counterparts; on taking over in October 1934 Scott-James embraced the more fashionable modernist writing, and that change is reflected in the present list.

Unpublished: no works by N. B. Stocker are listed on either OCLC WorldCat or COPAC. The author would however appear to be the N. B. Stocker who was active in England as an artist from at least 1853 (when he published a lithograph in 1853 titled 'The Emigrants' Return - Lord be praised!') to 1889 (when his drawing 'The Majesty of Woman' appeared). The printed title to Volume One, and references in both works to accompanying charts, suggest that both volumes were intended for publication. Both items in fair condition, on aged paper, in worn and shaken bindings.
