The seven items in very good condition, lightly aged. From the firm's archive, and produced to its highest standards. Partner John Cheney described himself on his calling card (not present) as a 'Printer in Gold, Silver, and Colours', with 'Specialities in the best class of work', and the company's high standards attracted clients from London's West End. 4pp., 16mo (11.5 x 7.5 cm). Bifolium. Printed in black, within decorative red borders, on all four sides, with the outer covers grey and the internal pages white. In very good condition. A tasteful production, with the 'Officers, &c.' on the front cover, the twelve 'Rules' on the second page; 'Club Runs' on the third page (fifteen of them, between Wroxton on Wednesday 8 June [1892] and South Newington via Milcombe on Friday 29 July [1892]. Small vignette of a frog on a penny farthing centred on the back cover.

The three items are in good condition, lightly-aged. The layout, design and typeface of the two calling cards is entirely different, although the text of both reads 'Bluthner & Co., | Pianoforte Manufacturers, | 7 to 10, Wigmore Street, Cavendish Square, London W.' Items Two and Three (the second calling card and the compliments card) are in the same typeface, but are of different design. ONE: Printed in red, with grey-green strips at head and foot, on one side of a 9 x 12 cm piece of white card.

Printed on one side of a 25 x 20 cm piece of pink paper. In very good condition, lightly aged. With 6.5 x 15 cm engraved illustration of the trolley, carrying a sign for the 'WIMBLEDON LOCAL BOARD', followed by: 'Fitted with wood naves, Drabble's patent arms and boxes, with brass oil caps, springs, and cross check spring, oak frame-work, and strong elm boards in bottom.' Beneath this the prices and dimensions, and capacity of five sizes of the trolley, with 'Extras, if required' below. The firm's address is at the foot, with the printers' slug centred beneath this outside the border.

Printed on both sides of a piece of 9 x 12.5 cm card, folded once to make a 9 x 6.25 cm bifolium, with the outer covers individual pages and the central opening a double-page spread. 4pp., 32mo (9 x 6.5cm). With shiny pink outer covers and matte white internal opening. In very good condition, very lightly aged. Tastefully printed, with the front cover within a decorative border, headed 'BANBURY | P.S.A. Cricket Club. | Season 1894.' and giving the names of the club officials, including Rev. H. Cubbon, President; Mr. Frank Lovegrove, Captain.

Beneath the title is a 5 x 11 cm engraving of the cart, followed by a seven-line description, and the prices for five sizes of the cart, with the capacity of each in gallons. Both items in very good condition, lightly-aged. ONE: 16mo (11.5 x 8 cm) green-card bifolium, printed in blue, with engraving in gold of the 'Club Badge' on front cover. On cover, beneath the names of the patron (the Earl of Jersey) and officers: 'FOOTBALL. | Captain - J. G. COWPER. Sub-Captain - A. M. BARROWS. | Captain Second Team - W. MORRAY. | Sub-Captain Ditto - W. HEMMING. | COLOURS - BLUE & WHITE.

The ten items are in very good condition, lightly-aged. Six of the items (the three fixture lists and three of the certificates) carry slugs, with the printers' details not stated on the other four items. ONE to THREE: Three 16mo (10.5 x 7 cm) booklets, each of 8pp: 'Fixtures, 1890-91', 'Fixtures, 1891-92', 'Fixtures 1892-93'. Uniform in design, and attractively printed in green, blue and lilac card covers and papers, with the Club's crest embossed on each front cover in gold. Each pamphlet carries the following inside the front cover: 'Object.

Three pieces of Victorian educational and scientific ephemera, and nice pieces of provincial printing. All three items nearly fine. ONE: 'APPLICATION for the Biological Chair of the "University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire."' Dated from Calthorpe Road on 17 August 1883, and addressed to 'IVOR JAMES, Esq. | Registrar, | University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire.' 1p., 4to. On bifolium.

8vo. The ten issues are consecutively paginated from 1-140, not including the printed wraps, which carry advertisements including individual wants of parties ranging from the Irish scholar F. J. Biggar to the London booksellers Maggs Bros. The ten items are all complete and unbound. The first six issues are printed on high-acidity paper, and are in frail condition, with loose leaves and chipping; the last four are in better condition, on lightly-aged and worn paper.

[4] + 47pp., 8vo. In printed wraps. Internally in fair condition, on aged paper, with slight staining to the corners; in worn and chipped wraps. A handsome production, as one might expect from one of the nine founders of the Grolier Club, with a two-page introduction followed by a full-page reproduction of the Ascensius printer's device, and 47 examples of pages set in various point sizes of Cushing, Ancient Roman, Jenson, Satanick, Louis XV, and Century Roman. No copy on COPAC, six American and one French on WorldCat.

The manuscript is closely-written over 80pp., 4to, and is interleaved with the twenty leaves of Peet's printed bibliography from the 1910 edition of Mumby's book (paginated 431-470), to which it does not correspond, with only a small amount of the information in the manuscript also in Peet's bibliography. It contains a mass of material not present in Peet's bibliography, and has the main list followed by entries under the following headings: 'Booksellers' Portraits', 'Tokens', 'Petitions & Memorials', 'Charities', 'Magazine Articles', 'Book Labels' and 'Copyright'.

24pp., 12mo. Stapled. In grey printed wraps. With stamp, shelfmark and label of the Board of Education Library, otherwise in good condtion, on lightly-aged paper. No copy in the British Library, or on COPAC.

16mo, with the first three issues continuously paginated to 240, and issue V paginated 321-400. Each volume with a frontispiece by Leech, and numerous illustrations by him in text. Three of the four issues (I, III and V) with an initial four-pages of advertisements, and more advertisements on the wraps. The four volumes in fair condition, on aged paper, in worn wraps, with the first volume lacking its spine. Each with the small and neat ownership inscription of 'L Jackson' in the top right-hand corner of its front wrap.

These two items cast interesting light on the working practices of a notable firm in a specialist field of printing. ONE: From Perkins, Bacon & Petch, 16 January 1852. 4pp., 4to. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. They have received his letter, from which they quote a passage in which Bennet states that on 'account of the inconvenience caused by the time which must elapse before we can obtain a supply of Letters of Credit from London to revert to our former practice of obtaining them from our Edinbugh Engraver.

[1] + 14pp., 8vo, with the text paginated 349-359. Disbound. Good, on aged paper. At the head of the title, in a contemporary hand: 'Relief of poor prisoners'. The title carries the royal crest, and reads in full: 'Anno Regni Gulielmi II. Regis Angliae, Scotiae, Franciae & Hiberniae, Septimo & Octavo. | At the Parliament begun at Westminster the Two and twentieth Day of November, Anno Dom. 1695.

1p., 12mo. In fair condition, on lightly aged and creased green paper. Fifteen lines, including slug, in a variety of types and point sizes. The item reads, in full: 'UNITED IRISH LEAGUE. | Postponed Meeting | will be held | ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 21, | at the | NEW MIDLAND ARMS, | CLIFTON STREET, DERBY, | To form a Branch of the above. | Chair to be taken at 8 p.m. prompt, by | Mr. J. 2pp., 8vo. Bifolium. Nicely printed on laid paper. In good condition, on aged paper. Headed 'IN MEMORIAM ALEX FOSTER | by | GEORGE HETHERINGTON', and with 'August 1972' following the last line. At foot of second page, in manuscript, 'To Máire | With love from | Christine'. Christine's first husband was the diplomat and journalist Conor Cruise O'Brien. Scarce: no copy on OCLC WorldCat or COPAC. From the Lynd papers.

1p., 8vo (25 x 18.5 cm). In fair condition, on lightly-aged and worn paper. 19 lines, printed in a variety of fonts and point sizes, in a style characteristic of the period. Headed: 'HUNTS. COUNTY COUNCIL. | TECHNICAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE. | DISTRICT OF ST. IVES.' Signed in type by Hazlitt at the end. 'The Lectures are FREE to all; and it is hoped that many people will attend them, as they will be of a Homely, Useful and Practical Character.'

All four stories 16mo, and each with a frontispiece included in the pagination. ONE. 'Tommy and Mary. A Book for the Very Little Ones.' 17pp. TWO. 'The Rector's Brook: A Story for Little People.' 32pp. THREE. 'Dobbin; or, The Discontented Donkey.' 30 + [1]pp. FOUR. 'The Little Missionary. A Tract for Children.' 11pp. Stitched into printed wraps, with the front cover coloured blue and the rear pink. Aged and worn, but complete and tight. Handwritten in a contemporary hand on the reverse of two frontispieces: 'Kilndown Lending Library'.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Aged and ruckled. Doré's huge painting 'The Triumph of Christianity over Paganism' was first exhibited in the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly in 1867.

3pp., 4to. 60 lines of text. Bifolium. Good, on aged paper. Addressed, on reverse of second leaf, to 'Valentine Mott M.D. | 25 Park Place | New-York'; with three postmarks, one from Havre and another 'Forwarded by Lewis Rogers & Co.' (Mott was in Europe at the time of writing.) An tantalising letter, regarding an intriguing affair about which nothing else appears discoverable. Eldridge is sending 'a hand bill, 5000 of which have been circulated thro Paris and the towns in its vicinity'.

36pp., 18mo. With frontispiece (preceding half-title) of 'I. CRANE / BROMSGROVE', showing a crane and a carriage lamp, within a circular border reading 'To make the Watch go faster turn the Regulator to the right & Slower the Contrary'. Side stitched in original pink printed wraps. In fair condition, in worn and lightly-stained wraps. Nicely printed on wove paper with 'LLOYD 1795' watermark. Poem titled 'Introduction' on p.5, followed by the title poem on pp.7-36. No copy of this attractive edtion on either COPAC or WorldCat, nor of any other printed by Grafton & Reddell.

2pp., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. The paper appears to have an 1890s watermark, and the correspondence may relate to the publication of Huggins's 'Atlas of representative Stellar Spectra', printed by Hazell, Watson & Viney for William Wesley & Son in 1899. Apparently impressed by the speed of Viney's response to his last letter, Huggins begins 'Your lightning is treble-greased.' He is returning the corrected proof, and sent 'a new copy with your name written on, by this morning's post as yr.

Printed on three sides of a bifolium on yellow card, with leaves roughly 12 x 20 cm each. Foister & Jagg's slug, on the back of the menu, almost removed by glue from mounting in album: otherwise good. Listing the members of the 'Anniversary Celebrations Committee', together with the 'Menu' and 'Toast List'. Dalton's signature ('Hugh Dalton') is written in pencil on the otherwise blank reverse of the second leaf.

4to, [ii] + 71 pp, with numerous leaves of additional manuscript and typescript material loosely inserted, as well as laid down. A few cuttings and extracts from printed works, as well as a Typed Letter Signed (17 March 1937) to Halliday from Ralph M. Williams of Yale, describing himself as 'interested in securing books, manuscripts, or other documents by or about the eighteenth century poet John Dyer'. Neatly written out in pencil and pen, on watermarked wove paper, in sturdy buckram binding. Internally in excellent condition, tight and clean, in worn binding with staining to front board.

Landscape card, 7.5 x 11.5 cm. Designed to show off the firm's capabilities, and printed on one side in purple, green, light brown and gold, with fancy lettering within florally-decorated body and border, around a small central illustration of three men working a press. Printers' details in small letters at foot, reading 'F. Bentley & Co. Lth' and 'Shoe Lane, London.' The almanac on the reverse is a more restrained affair, stylishly printed in purple and gold. Fair: lightly-aged, with small closed hole to one corner, and slight wear at foot of almanac.

One page, thirteen lines, 8vo, small closed tears, text clear and complete. "As I cannot continue my lectures on [? see scan], for some time to come I return a proportion of the balance of money collected in various towns. I have not taken one penny for my labours, but I propose to retain about one third of the balance [underlined] as there were innumerable etceteras about a work like mine. If any of the subscribers object to this, please let me know. - I enclose a cheque for £5." Best has listed 6 recipients of shares of this £5 on the verso of a conjoint leaf ,and with a small sum.
