The ten items are in very good condition, on lightly-aged paper. They are attached to one another by a brass pin in the top left-hand corner. The last page carries a 'List of Characters' played by Gatty, from the 'First Gravedigger' in 'Hamlet' in 1866 to 'Tony Lumpkin' in 'She Stoops to Conquer' in 1882. The reviews, in small type over the previous six pages, are highly favourable, from a range of papers from the Guardian to the Sheffield Daily Telegraph. The latest dated item is a 1960 crown. List No. 11: Printed in blue. Mainly advertising 'English Coin Sets in their original cases', but with 'ENGLISH SILVER' in three columns. Text clear and complete. On lightly aged paper, with some foxing along creases, and dogeared, creased edge.

On one side of a piece of wove paper, 32 x 24 cm. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged and creased paper, with slight wear to extremities. Headed '(From "THE TIMES," October 17, 1888.) SLOUGH AND M. ARAGO. TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES.' The letter is thirteen lines long, ephatically printed in good-sized type. Signed in type 'LEWIS HENSLEY. | Hitchin Vicarage, Oct.

Piece of wove paper, 27 x 21 cm, blank but for letterhead 'henry miller 18 villa seurat paris XIVe'. Modern-looking, with 'henry miller', 'villa' and 'paris' in bold. Aged, worn, and creased. Having stayed with the writer Michael Fraenkel at Villa Seurat in 1931, Miller moved into the top-floor studio at No. 18 in September 1934, remaining there until May 1939. The rent was negotiated by Anaïs Nin, who briefly shared the apartment. An evocative artifact, redolent of the creative potentiality of the Paris of the American expatriate literary community 'entre deux guerres'.

Printed on the recto of the first leaf of a bifolium. Leaf dimensions 29 x 23.5 cm. Clear and complete. Grubby, and with closed tears to folds and slight damp staining. An attractive production. Ornate heading, with engraved portrait of Minerva in circular medallion (5.5 cm diameter) surrounded by laurel leaves, 'Drawn & Engd. by W. H. Lizars'. Text engraved in copperplate. Reads (with manuscript part in square brackets): 'Edinburgh [23d. January] 18[34,] | At a meeting of the Society held here on the [22d.

Folio, 1 p. Double column. Text clear and complete. On aged paper, with wear to edges and repair on reverse to short closed tear.

4to, 4 pp. Bifolium. Nicely printed with vignette of flowers and ribbons on first page. Fair, on aged paper. The firm, boasting establishment in 1849, is described on the first page as 'late of Lovell's Court, Paternoster Row, E.C.', where the announcement is made 'that they have Transferred their Business to the Above Address'. Six new editions of works are advertised on the following two pages, with details given of contents. The last page advertises 'Blackwood's Diaries for 1911' and 'Blackwood's New Series of Scribbling Diaries'.

This archive records the day-by-day response to the Great War of a cultured and intelligent English newspaper editor operating outside the Fleet Street hegemony. It charts his change of opinion from initial optimism (8 August 1914: 'The instinct is to strike - it is nature's own law.

Photocopy of word processor typed print-out. 8vo, [ii] + 53 pp. Good. In plastic binder. Title carries Dee's address. Second page lists the twelve sections of the play. Loosely inserted is a photocopy of a long review, with photograph, from the East Hampton Star, 26 March 1992, of 'a dramatic reading' of the play at Canio's Books, Sag Harbor. The play was not published, and there are no copies of this item on WorldCat or COPAC.

Possibly a presentation to Radcliffe and his wife. 4to photograph album, in heavily-worn leather binding, all edges gilt, lacking clasp and spine, containing a total of 113 photographs, including 108 albumen cartes-de-visite, each print approximately 9 x 5.5 cm, and each laid down on a gilt-edged card mount roughly 10.5 x 6 cm. The large majority of the photographs are in excellent condition, with some carrying a small pinhole at the head (obscured by their mounts). Three pages of the album carry minor damage, otherwise good and tight internally. Almost all from the studio of Alfred D.

On one side of a piece of wove paper, roughly 400 x 250 mm. Dimensions of engraving roughly 130 x 180 mm. Good, on heavily-foxed and lightly-creased paper. The sketch shows a well-dressed flautist playing his instrument in a market square, with money, clothes and food drawn to him from onlookers as if by magnetism. Beneath the print, in a variety of types and point sizes: 'Speedily will be Published, Inscribed to all Lovers of Tweedledum Tweedle, The Art of Playing upon People: or, Memoirs of the German Flute. Interspersed with The Character of Baron Steeple; [...]'.

4to, 1 p. Twenty-six lines of text. Clear and complete. Very good, on aged paper. Minor traces of mount adhering to reverse. Vignette of riverboat beneath heading. Signed by Handly and five others, ending with 'Chauncey H. Castle, Of the Comstock-Castle Stove Co.' Begins 'The division of the Mississippi river between the mouths of the Des Moines and Illinois rivers having been in a notoriously unfavorable condition for the purpose of navigation for the past two years, it has been deemed advisable to call a River Convention'.

12mo, 2 pp. Good, on lightly-aged paper, with one dog-eared corner. Quoting Haden's views, which appear distinctly progressive. He finds the 'retention in a dwelling-house for as long as possible of a body, which ought to be committed to the earth as soon as possible', and the need for a 'strong coffin' great evils.

16mo, 4 pp. Disbound bifolium. Text clear and complete, but in poor condition. Vignette after last item. Gives text of 'Opening Hymn. Daventry. L. M.', 'Alter Prayer. Salem. S.M.', 'After Sermon. Children's Hymn.', 'After Collection. Duetto. - Fawcett.' and 'After Benediction.' Aged, worn and creased, with loss to margins. BBTI has Brougham operating in Burslem between 1828 and 1851 as 'Printer, Bookseller, Bookbinder, Music seller, Librarian/owner of circulating library, Stationer.'

On one side of a piece of laid paper, 18.5 x 14 cm. Aged and grubby, with closed tears and slight loss to top left-hand corner. Laid down on piece of brown paper. Larger than the ticket allowing the bearer to 'Pass and Repass'. The engraved crest ('Sub Libertate Quietem'), roughly 9 x 6 cm, has above it the words, 'For the Trial of Warren Hastings Esq.', and beneath it 'Peter Burrell Dy. Great Chamberlain'. Beneath this a laurel wreath and the words 'Twentyeighth Day'. Stamford's signature, at the foot, has to its left the red wax seal, with the faint impression of his crest.

Each of the three printed on both sides of a piece of paper, 21.5 x 14.5 cm, the last two printed in black and red. The condition of these scarce, ephemeral items, is poor. They are damp-stained, with the first two complete, but with numerous closed tears, and the third with fraying and loss to the margins, resulting in a little loss to the illustration, but with the whole text still legible. ITEM ONE (coded AI-049-3-44) [March 1944?]: Text on one side, headed 'The Way Of All Flesh', begins 'When pretty Joan Hopkins was still standing behind the ribbon counter of a 5 & 10 cts.

Following the singer's death in 1959 Johnny C. Beecher relaunched Holly's official English fan club, helping to keep his reputation alive at a time when he was practically forgotten in America. As Beecher stated in an interview, he kept 'in touch with Buddy's parents, Ella and L.O., and I can say that without them it wouldn't have been possible, as they sent us all sorts of information and photographs that kept up our enthusiasm. The Crickets also helped out and were pretty nice considering all we ever asked 'em was, "What was Buddy really like." Despite that, we became pals.

On the recto of the first leaf of a bifolium. Leaf dimensions 38 x 22 cm. 59 lines. A small area, approximately 1.5 x 2.5 cm has been torn away, resulting in slight loss to the text, the gaps being easy to fill in ('[...] Motion b [...] | [...] It nimously [...] | [...] Mee of Opinion [...]'). The hole has been repaired on the reverse; otherwise the page is in fair condition, on lightly-aged and foxed paper.

One page. On one side of a piece of watermarked, laid paper, 18 x 11.5 cm, with the reverse blank. On aged paper with slight loss to left-hand margin and slight stain beneath text at foot of page. Laid down on a leaf removed from an album.

The Van Diemen's Land Company was formed in 1824 by a group of London merchants, including Charles Richard Fenwick (1822-1888) and Thomas Dyer Edwardes (d.1912), to supply wool for the British textile industry. It received a Royal Charter the following year. In 1826 it was granted 350,000 acres in the northwest of the country. It established its headquarters at Circular Head. The company retains much of the original land grant and is believed to be the last chartered company still operating in Tasmania.

8vo, 4 pp. Neatly printed on watermarked laid paper. Fair, though slightly grubby and creased. The words 'First Issue' are in the top left-hand corner of the first page. The heading reads 'Trinity College, Cambridge. | June 21 and 22, 1899. | The following Members of the College have accepted the invitation of the Master and Fellows to dinner on June 21. The date placed opposite to each name is that of the year in which the first degree was taken, and the order is that in which the names stand on the College Boards'. The earliest graduates date from 1858 and the latest from 1865.

4to, 2 pp. On a bifolium. Neatly printed on watermarked laid paper. Clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper. The first paragraph reads 'I BEG to inform you that you will be [last two world replaced by 'are'] of standing to take the degree of M.A.

The three items indicate a brashness approaching hucksterism on the part of a Victorian professional, in addition to marketing techniques advanced for the period. Letter: 12mo, 2 pp. Stamped at head: 'Edw. Broughton Rouse, M.A., LL.D. | 436, GLOSSOP ROAD, | SHEFFIELD.' Twenty-five lines of text. Clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. Many hundreds of this letter must have been copied out and sent to clergymen throughout England.

8vo, 40 pp. Unpaginated. Stitched as issued. In original blue wraps. Fair, on lightly-aged and foxed paper, in grubby and stained wraps. The examination papers, covering fields including Latin, Greek and French; scripture; ancient and modern history; mathematics, chemistry and chemistry, cover 31 pp, and are of more than enough difficulty to support those claiming a decline in British educational standards. Also present are lists of the school's governors and masters, and of prize scholarship winners, with the last page giving the subject's for the following years prizes.

The flong is 31.5 x 19 cm. Stamped on reverse 'LIGHT'S - "IDEAL" | HAND CASTING | DRY STEREO FLONG'. Small triangle missing from the top left-hand corner, causing the loss of the first letter of the first line (the 'P' in 'PRINTERS'); apart from that text clear and complete. Top right-hand corner slightly dogeared, crease along one rule, and thin strip of wear at foot (not affecting text). An interesting piece of printing ephemera.

Stamped on front pastedown 'LE ROY & CIE. | DECORATION GENERALE | 58, Avenue Fonsny, 58 | TEL. SABLON 2061'. In a landscape 12mo (roughly 12 x 17 cm) album of 29 leaves, bound in coarse brown cloth. The majority of the photographs are in good condition though lightly aged, with around 20 showing varying degrees of damage involving staining and chipping. The album itself is worn and aged, in a binding heavily-worn at spine and corners, and with spotted and aged leaves.
