Printed in black on one side of a 12.5 x 17 cm card. In fair condition, on aged and creased paper, with a little light staining. To the right of the page is an illustration by Tenniel of Mr Punch holding Yorick's skull, while a pug dog looks on. Text reads: 'Sir John Tenniel requests the honour of a visit from [blank] and friend, On Saturday, March 30th, To the Private View of some of his Drawings for "Punch Cartoons," etc., At the Fine Art Society's, 148, New Bond Street. 10 to 6 o'clock.'

On one side of a piece of 14 x 9 cm paper, with embossed design to the scalloped edges. Hand-coloured in yellow, pink, red, purple, grey and plum. A smiling young girl, blonde-haird and rosy cheeks, in gentleman's hat, muffler, plum velvet jacket, purple shorts and red tights, stands on the pavement, looking smiling at the viewer as she posts a letter with a red wax seal into a box marked 'Post Office' and 'London 12'. The caption at the foot reads: 'A VALENTINE | FOR MY LITTLE FRIEND'.

ii + 10pp., 8vo. Unbound and stitched. In fair condition, on aged paper. Ownership signature of 'R. G. Underdown' (Railway, General Manager) at head of first page. Passed 18 August 1882. The ten pages of the act are preceded by a two page 'Arrangement of Sections', from '1. Married women to be capable of holding property and of contracting as a feme sole.' to '27. Short title.' A document of considerable historical significance. Scarce: no copies located on COPAC.

Printed on one side of a piece of 12.5 x 20 cm green card. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, with central vertical crease line unobtrusively strengthened with archival tape. To the left of the page is an illustration of a British soldier officer a Burmese temple. The text is written out in a range of lettering characteristic of the period, and reads: 'Exhibition of Original Burmese War & Nile Expedition Sketches by Melton Prior Special Artist of the Illustrated London News. Under the Patronage of His Royal Highness The Duke of Connaught.

iv + 37 + [1] + 234pp., 4to. In grey cloth binding, gilt. All edges gilt. Internally in good condition, lightly aged, in worn binding with rear spine shoulder splitting. The title continues: 'Designed for the use of Librarians, Autograph Collectors, Literary Men, and as a Work of General Interest. With Biographical Notices, and Occasional Translations.' The letterpress consists of a title leaf; and a two-page preface followed by a 'Biographical Index' of 37pp., and a page of errata and addenda.

Printed in black and blue on both sides of a 28 x 43 cm piece of paper. Discoloured and aged, with small strip cut at head of leaf. Carrying 18 engravings of the firm's designs for lurries, carts and vans, usually giving dimensions, weight and load. Among the designs are a 'Bottler's Lurry', 'Mineral Water Van', 'Mineral Water Lurry', 'Farmer's Lurry', 'Brewer's Float', 'Furniture Van', 'London Mail Van', 'Bread Van', 'Parcel or Bread Van', 'Farmer's Cart', 'Miller's Cart' and 'Contractor's Cart'.

Pp.3-16 are divided into 'Partie Chimique et Pharmacologique', 'Physiologie' and 'Applications Thérapeutiques'. Pp.17-40 carry case studies. Apioline is used to stimulate menstruation. Scarce: no copy on WorldCat, COPAC, or in the Bibliotheque Nationale.

The collection is in fair overall condition, on aged and worn paper. Not all from the same source (includes stamps of W. H. Printed on one side of a piece of 29 x 22.5 cm yellow newspaper stock. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper, with a 1 cm closed tear to the margin. Distinctively laid out, within a decorative border, with three vignette silhouettes of men in evening dress. Under the heading 'Double attraction', announces that 'The Excelsior Cinema Cuddapah. | Takes Pride in Presenting from Sunday 10-5-31. | Under the kind patranage [sic] of | A. G. Blake Esq., I.C.S., | Collector and District Magistrate, Cuddapah. | A Grand Show of an Assembly of | Nation Builders of India & England.

On one side of a piece of 26 x 41 cm wove paper. The map printed in black ink within17 x 21 cm ruled border, with the caption 'Sketch of the Battle of Sobraon' above the border, and the publication details beneath. The British troops, at the foot of the map, coloured in pink and the Sikh troops, at the head, in green, with a tiny dab of the green watercolour in the margin to the right. In fair condition, on aged and creased paper, with small closed tear to margin in top left-hand corner. 'Note' in bottom left-hand corner, relating to troop numbers, and guns and 'Camel Swivels' captured.

12 x 8.5 cm. Bifolium. Printed in red and black on thick watermarked deckle-edged laid paper. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Engraving in black ink on recto of first leaf, incorporating the words 'Rowfant Club' and '255 Erie St', showing a back-view of a man in a chair seated at a table, spreading open a large volume containing ''BOOK-PLATES'. Text on recto of second volume, printed in black and red, with the printed words 'Compliments of' followed by the autograph signature of 'F. H. Baer'.

In good condition, lightly aged and worn, with dink to spine. Section titles read: '"Who is this C. Print: 16.5 x 12 cm. Plate: 19 x 16.5 cm. Paper: 21.5 x 20 cm. In fair condition: aged and worn, with 8cm closed tear unobtrusively repaired on reverse. Depicts Figg and another with weapons on a platform, with a crowd looking on from pit and gallery. Text reads: 'James Figg | Master of ye Noble Science of Defence | on ye right hand in Oxford Road | near Adam & Eve court teaches Gentle- | men ye use of y[e] small backsword & |Quarterstaff at home & abroad'. Copy in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, whose description provides information.

Around 190 items, fifteen of them loosely inserted. (The firm was already a century old at the time this material was assembled, boasting that it was 'established the year after Waterloo', 1816.) Contained within a sturdy album of grey paper (dimensions 48.5 x 33.5 cm.), stitched with string into covers with brown cloth spine. Label on front cover: 'ADVERTISEMENT FILE. | CHAS. THURNAM & SONS.' In manuscript on label: 'OLD MATTER | NOT TO BE DESTROYED'.

In card wraps, with title on front cover also in black and red stylised lettering on front, and an advertisement on the inside back cover ('This is the first of a series of three informative pieces of literature which are to be issued and presented by the printers of the country to users of printing. [...]'). Saddle-stitched with brown thread. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn.

In fair condition, on aged and worn paper, with wear to fore-edge, and loss to bottom outer corner. Text entirely undamaged, apart from a tear through two words on the last page. The dialogue between the well-spoken curate and the dialect-spouting cobbler, on the subject of 'the Election-Business', takes place at 'the Cobler's Shop'. Seven copies on COPAC, but now uncommon.

Folio folder of red card, with title printed on cover in black, containing the six prints, each on a separate piece of thick wove paper (almost card), with a bifolium of the same paper carrying the title leaf and limitation (164), as well as a page of letterpress by Vicentini. Internally in good condition, with one corner bumped; in worn and aged card folder. Each cartoon is signed in pencil by Marantonio in the bottom-right corner, with the limitation '162 [sic] / 250' in the bottom-left corner. Six crisp and elegant designs.

The three papers are titled: 'The Effect of the Rise of Air Power On War (October 1943)', 'The Principles of Air Power in War (May 1945)' and 'Air Power and National Security (August 1946)'. Scarce. No copy at the British Library, and the only copy on COPAC at Cambridge University, with a further two copies on OCLC WorldCat.

Large (35 x 25 cm.) sumptuously-printed stitched pamphlet, in printed wraps. 16pp., with one additional collotype plate (stamped 'Specimen Colour Plate') and one tipped-in plate (of the binding), both coloured, and three full-page half-tone plates. Subscription form (The British Book Centre, Inc., New York), in red and black at rear. Aged and worn, with creasing to front cover. Includes three-page 'Commentary on a Unique Volume' by Winchester, and the first three pages of Wilson's text, two pages listing the contents, and specimen pages.

2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, on aged and lightly-worn paper. The recto of the first leaf is headed by a 6.5 x 8 cm engraving of the Red Lion Inn. Beneath this is an advertisement in the form of a letter from 'NATHANIEL WEGG' to 'Sir, or Madam', addressed from 'RED LION, EAST STREET, GREENWICH. | July, 1841.' He states that he has 'repurchased the business lately carried on by Mr. GOSLING', and recommends his 'STOCK OF WINES, which was laid in by me at my commencement in business in December 1838, and which for selection and flavour may safely defy competition'.

4pp., 4to. Bifolium. In very good condition. Covering the whole of the front page is a beautiful coloured illustration of the Imperial State Crown, with no text. The following three pages are printed in black and purple, with the second page carrying the publication details; the third page a full-page note from the editor; and the last page an advertisement for Sir John Wilson's 'Royal Philatelic Collection'. No copies of this item traced on either COPAC or OCLC WorldCat.

Laid out in three columns on one side of a 71 x 26 cm piece of newsprint stock. With two illustrations in text ('Chalfont St. Giles: the only remaining Milton home' and 'Facsimile of a Milton Sonnet'). Aged and brittle, with a few words of text lost in two vertical folds which have been repaired with archival tape. Section headings are 'Commemorations', 'Manchester Exhibitions and Addresses', 'A Tribute', 'The English Patriot', 'Milton and Music', 'His Optimism', 'His Self-Confidence' and 'A Poetic Life'.
