The document reads: 'My Lord | Her Majesty having been pleased by Her Proclamation to call Parliament to meet for the Dispatch of Business on Thursday the 1st. of February next, and as it is probable that business of Importance will be brought under the consideration of both Houses at an early period; which it is desirable should be considered in full Houses, I venture to suggest to your Lordship that your Lordship should attend on the day of the Meeting of Parliament'.

The note is 1p., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. It reads 'The C

and the Poneys and Poney Carriage and the Saddle Horses are to be in readiness & go tomorrow afternoon to Shooter's Hill | Dartford Halt 17th. | Rochester | Sittingborne Halt 18th. | Canterbury Halt 19 | Walmer Castle Halt 20th.' Pinned in the bottom right-hand corner, on a piece of 2.5 x 5.5 cm paper, is the autograph signature 'Wellington' cut from a letter.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, on aged paper, with a nineteenth-century repair to short closed tears. The letter reads: 'The Duke of Wellington presents his Compliments to Quarter Master Jones and begs leave to inform him in answer to His Letter of the 3d Inst, thaht He must apply to the General Comm[andin]g. the Army in Chief; the Duke has nothing whatever to say to the Details of the Army or to the Selection of Gentlemen to be removed from half to full pay. | London Feb. 8. 1829'.

Both items in fair condition, on aged and worn paper. Letter One: 4pp., 12mo. Harvey begins: 'Of course I well remember the too short time when I had the pleasure of being your colleague at the British Museum.' He would like to see Aldrich's 'old Dutch masters' but may not be able to visit him at Bowes Park before 'returning to reconstruction work in France in which I am interested'. He suggests a meeting in the new year, before enquiring whether Aldrich has 'got Sir Sidney Colvin's opinion of your Old masters. He is very interested in these things.' Letter Two: 2pp., 4to.

1p., 12mo. Good, on aged paper, with traces of grey paper mount adhering to the reverse. Reads: 'Gentlemen | I shall be much obliged by your forwarding the wine to me immediately with an account of your expences - | Your obedt servt | Tho Denman | 50 Russell Square | March 17. 1831'.

1p., 12mo. Bifolium. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He informs him that he has written 'a strong letter of recommendation to Lord Knutsford' (Secretary of State for the Colonies). He is enclosing the reply (not present) and 'will not fail to bring the matter before him again'. Sir Stephen Herbert Gatty (1849-1922) was later Chief Justice of Gibraltar.

2pp., 12mo. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper. Headed 'To the Independent Electors of the Borough of King's Lynn' and beginning: 'Gentlemen, | I have canvassed the constituency of your Town as an Independent candidate who as your representative supported in the last Parliament the measures of Sir Robert Peel's administration.' He thanks 'the Electors at large' for 'the courtesy with which I have been invariably received' and also 'that overwhelming majority of their body who have honored me with promises of support'.

All three items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Letter One: School of Rural Economy, Oxford. 18 August 1930. 2pp., 4to. She sympathises with 'the difficulties of archaeological research at Southend [...] for I know only too well how the people who hold the ultimate strings can "do one down" when their interests don't happen to coincide with one's own'. She recalls that in 1913 she 'put in a lot of time on some fossils for the B.M. - they turned out to be pieces of fossilised timber; & because the Keeper of the Palaeobotanical Dept.

The archive contains around 280 letters, two packets and negatives, various postcards, brochures and a driving licence. It contains around 260 letters from Robert Cole to his parents in Littlehampton, Sussex, England during the time he took up a Government position with the Federation of Malaya Fisheries Department in 1952 (Penang and Malacca, where he worked, remained Crown Territories within the Federation); and about 20 letters from his wife Cicely to Rosalind Cole.

An abridged abstract of this item, by 'Mr. Tallack', appeared in the Social Science Review, N.S. Vol.2 (July-December 1864), pp.421-422, but the present full version of the address, as delivered, is unpublished. 3pp., foolscap 8vo. On three leaves of laid Britannia paper by Conqueror of London. Held together with a brass stud, and with the last leaf laid down on a page removed from an album. With a few manuscript corrections. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. The address is written in a vivid but not entirely coherent style, and begins: 'I have been invited by the Secretary, G. H.

4pp., foolscap 8vo, on the rectos of four leaves. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper. The first two pages carry the French text ('C.I.J.') and the last two the English text ('I.C.J.'). One page carries instructions for the 'Audience de la Reine des Pays-Bas' ('Audience with the Queen of the Netherlands'), and the next carries an 'Annexe a Distr.272' ('Annex to Distr. 272'). The latter is a copy of a letter from Hardenbroek, Grand-Master of the Court of Her Majesty the Queen, to 'Monsieur le Président of the International Court of Justice, Peace Palace, The Hague'.

State Structure', begins with the entries under the subheadings 'People's Congress', 'People's Government', 'State Council' and 'Commissions Directly Under State Council'. This is followed by: 'B. 1p., 4to. On aged paper with a couple of closed holes. He is 'very anxious to discuss', with Bilainkin and the Jewish Board of Deputies, 'the Appeal which [...] is in progress on behalf of the Central British Fund for Jewish Relief and Rehabilitation'.

The three items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. ONE: Autograph Letter Signed from Lytton to Keedick. 19 June 1914. 4pp., 12mo. On bifolium. He apologises for the delay in replying, caused by 'a bad attack of hay fever which has almost incapacitated me'. He regrets to say that 'it will be impossible for me to do what you wish namely to enter into a contract with you immediately to deliver 30 lectures in the U.S.A. & Canada next year about November, because it is possible that before that date I might obtain some work which would prevent me leaving this country'.

4pp., 16mo. Bifolium with mourning border. In fair condition, on aged paper. She begins by explaining the reasons for her silence, and apologising if she has 'seemed neglectful': 'the truth is that I quitted Chester Squr on Monday, for Miss Squire's of Blackheath [...] I return to London to morrow mg, to spend a few days with Mr. Murray's [publisher] family in Albemarle St. & then think of takg the railroad to Derby [opened in 1844] to fulfil a long promised visit.' The letter continues with references to 'Mrs Reese Sr.' of Chester Square, 'dear Kath:' and 'dear Matty'.

4pp., folio. Originally on a bifolium, but now with the two leaves separated and attached to a white stub from an album. In good condition, on aged and lightly-spotted paper, and trimmed at the head. Laid out in the conventional manner, With the reverse of the final leaf printed in landscape, so that the item can be folded into the customary package.

The three items are in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. The letter is 6pp., 4to, with emendations and deletions, and marked by Hodson 'Copy' at the head of the first page. In envelope annotated by Hodson: 'Copy of a letter to Lt. Col. P. Lyttleton Gell, J.P. | The Catholic Revival. In order to make his point of view clear, he begins by stating: 'I may say that I was born in London & my mother took me to such churches as S. Alban's Holborn, S. Michael's Shoreditch, All Saints, Margaret St.

The first and last letters in envelopes, with stamps and postmarks, addressed to Hodson at Compton Hall, with the third forwarded to North Wales. ONE (1 August 1898): 2 pp., 12mo. The college authorities have instructed Faning to thank Hodson for his 'kind offer to lend them the "Chapel piece" of your Tapestry and to say that they will be glad to avail themselves of it in October.

2pp., 12mo. On bifolium. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper. In addition to the message he left for the recipient's guest 'as to Carnegie', he asks him to tell his father-in-law (the London parliamentary bookseller P. S. King?) 'that it will be a very great favour if he sends me, to glance over, those letters he spoke of'. He undertakes to 'return them at once', and gives his address in Aberdeenshire for August and September. He has 'called twice on the chance of seeing Mrs. Roberts to say Goodbye', and asks the recipient to 'say it for me, in kindly fashion'.

3pp., 4to. Bifolium. Addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'Charles R. Broughton Esqre | Foreign Office | London', and docketed by recipient on the same page 'Naples 22 June 1815 | Wm. Court | 12 July | A'. à Court has written 'Duplicate' in the top left-hand corner of the first page (he would have sent several copies of the letter in case one miscarried, but the fact that this is the one that was received by Broughton is evidenced by the docketing). In fair condition, on aged paper, with usual broken wafer.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. A frail survival, on aged and worn paper. The first page carries the 'Message', headed with the crest of the Colonial Office, and signed in type 'G. H. HALL.': 'Welcome home. You have suffered a long and bitter ordeal at the hands of a barbarous enemy. | You have never been out of our thoughts and we now know, as we had always expected, that you have borne the ordeal with the spirit of your race. | That experience is now past and freedom is yours again.

Both items in fair condition, on lightly aged and creased paper. The second letter addressed by the secretary on the reverse, with four torn stamps and postmarks, to 'Mr. Lawrence Hodson | Bradbourne Hall | Ashbourne | Derbyshire'. The 'set of stations' referred to in the first letter is likely to have been based on those executed by Gill in stone in Westminster Cathedral, and completed in 1918. Letter One (3 November 1920): 1p., 12mo.
